We are a relatively new team. This group of students started the first middle school robotics team in Van Buren and are all sophomores this year. This team was able to qualify two years ago to compete at the state level as eighth grade students. These students have spent hours after school and during their lunch time designing, building, programming, and revising. In addition to working with robots, they have become a family. We have included current middle school students on the teams for this competition as we are continuing to grow and build the program in the Van Buren School District.
This season has been full of learning experiences. We have plans to expand, grow, and participate in many community activities next year. We would like to help with the Salvation Army Red Kettle program, our school's Fall Festival as well as other community events. The team has steadily improved their robots and are looking forward to competing at the state level.
Danna Fudge is a high school math teacher who has worked with these students since they were in middle school. When she moved to the high school, she became the high school coach as well as the coordinator for the middle schools. As a veteran teacher, the robotics program has been a new, welcome challenge. Working with the students is the highlight of the job! Jason Couch dedicates his time to traveling to competitions with the team. Mr. Couch teaches PLTW and science courses at Van Buren High School.
