General Info

A speed-building competition is open to both middle and high school students. Here are the guidelines for the event:

  1. Participants are allowed to arrange their robot parts before the timed event begins.

  2. It is highly recommended that contestants use their setup time to power on the robot's brain to avoid delays later.

  3. Having printed directions on hand during the building process is acceptable.

  4. Prior to moving the required one-foot distance, the robot must be assembled completely following the provided building instructions.

  5. Building commences when the timer starts, and the timer stops as soon as the robot travels one foot.

  6. A maximum time limit of 6 minutes is enforced, and contestants must stop their efforts after this time.

  7. Crucially, participants must pre-program their robots to move forward. During the competition, they will only need to assemble the robot and press the "run" button. There should be no time delay programmed into the robot's behavior.

This competition is open to both middle school and high school students.

Emergency/Bad Weather Policy

1. Safety First:

  • The safety and well-being of all employees, visitors, and contractors are our top priorities during adverse weather conditions. Employees are encouraged to use their best judgment when assessing their own safety.

2. Remote Work:

  • Whenever feasible and safe, employees are encouraged to work remotely during adverse weather conditions. Employees should coordinate with their supervisors to determine the suitability of remote work for their roles.

3. Office Closure:

  • In extreme cases when adverse weather conditions make it unsafe or impractical for employees to travel to the office, the organization may decide to close its physical office locations. Notifications regarding office closures will be communicated to employees as early as possible.

4. Communication:

  • The organization will use various communication channels to inform employees about office closures, remote work arrangements, and other relevant information related to adverse weather conditions. This may include email, text messages, phone calls, and announcements on the organization's website and social media.

5. Flexible Work Hours:

  • During adverse weather conditions, employees may be allowed to adjust their work hours or make up for missed work hours later. Supervisors should work with their teams to ensure flexibility and accommodate employees' needs.

6. Paid Time Off (PTO):

  • Employees who are unable to work due to adverse weather conditions and are unable to work remotely may use accrued PTO or vacation time, subject to the organization's existing time-off policies.

7. Essential Personnel:

  • Certain roles within the organization may be designated as essential, meaning that employees in these roles are required to work regardless of adverse weather conditions. Essential personnel will be notified of their status by their supervisors.

8. Emergency Assistance:

  • In the event of emergencies during adverse weather conditions, employees should follow emergency protocols, including contacting emergency services as necessary. The organization will provide assistance and support to the best of its ability.

9. Updates and Review:

  • This Bad Weather Policy will be reviewed periodically to ensure its effectiveness and relevance. Any necessary updates will be communicated to all employees.
