General Info

Our Girl Powered Workshop is an engineering and robotics event being hosted by Gael Force Robotics (5327). Our goal is to promote the inclusion of women in STEM fields, by helping middle school girls gain exposure to the world of robotics and engineering. This workshop is open to girls from 6th-9th grade, where they will learn valuable skills in building, programming, designing, and strategy.

Volunteer Form:

Our workshop will have 4 different stations:

  • Building with Design: This station includes activities that focus on designing, then building mechanisms. Girls will learn to construct 3D models of their designs using CAD, and then build their designs using their models as a reference.
  • Building: This station is oriented towards general building concepts, where girls can learn good building habits and put them into practice, first with simple mechanisms, then with increasingly complex ones.
  • Programming: This station teaches the essentials of programming for VEX Robotics in VexCode. Participants will be familiarized with the programming environment, and will be taught basic program logic and algorithm writing for their robots.
  • Strategy: This station educates girls in the basic strategies of playing in a VEX robotics match, and allows them to play their own matches, both as drivers and as coaches. Girls will develop game specific strategies and practice implementing them, building their creative thinking skills and driver skills.

Our event also features several keynote speakers and a completely female panel of guests, including current high school girls in robotics, Gael Force alumni studying STEM disciplines in college, and Gael Force alumni currently working in STEM fields. More information on keynote speakers and panelists will be released closer to our event date, along with our event schedule. If you have any questions, or would like to know more about our event, please reach out to [email protected]. We look forward to seeing you all there!
