Speaker Bio

Tyler Lee

Lead Builder & Driver for 839A, Caution Tape, Robotics

Age 12

Tyler’s love for robotics started when he was very young.  At the age of 5, Tyler went to a FIRST Robotics competition and  became fascinated by robots. He later enrolled in a FLL Junior (First Lego League Junior) program at a local library where he was first exposed to motorized Lego builds.  By age 6, he made and coded his first simple autonomous robot using a Lego WeDo kit.  He continued with FLL Jr. for 2 more years through a friends and family group that his parents helped him form.  During his last year in FLL Jr., Tyler joined and began to compete in FLL alongside kids as old as 18 for the next 2 years.  When Tyler turned 9 In 2018, he discovered VEX IQ and has continue on with VEX IQ exclusively since the Covid Pandemic.  For most of his VEX IQ career, Tyler competed in the Middle School division while still attending elementary.  Tyler is currently a member of Caution Tape Robotics’ Elite VEX IQ Team, 839A.  He has set several skills worlds records since joining VEX and has won numerous awards and recognitions in robotics, including:

  • Construction Innovation Award, First Lego League Jr. Ontario Provincial Expo
  • Invitation to FLL World Festival, First Lego league Jr.
  • Excellence Award, VEX Ontario Provincial Championship
  • Excellence Award, VEX Worlds
  • Divisional Champion, VEX Worlds
  • Innovators Award, VEX Worlds
  • VEX IQ Challenge "Make It Real" CAD Engineering Challenge, VEX Online Challenge
