We are very excited to host the fourth annual in-person Google sponsored Girl Powered VEX Robotics Workshop. This workshop is for girls grades 6 through 12, ages 12 and above. The two day VEX Robotics Girl Powered Workshop is sponsored by Google and is a collaboration between the Robotics Education & Competition Foundation (RECF), VEX Robotics Competition, and Team 315, Paradigm with support from the India Community Center (ICC).
In this event, teams of students will be tasked with designing and building a robot, to play the VEX Tipping Point Game against other teams in a game-based engineering challenge. This workshop will be held on July 31st and August 1st, 2021 at the India Community Center, 525 Los Coches St, Milpitas, CA 95035.
This event is for all girls whether they have had prior exposure or interests in robotics. This is a great way for those curious about robotics to be introduced and for those that have some experience to learn more about advanced robotics. We have sessions planned for a wide range of experience and interests.
Over the last 4 years over 2000 girls have participated in this workshop, and several hundred of them have gone on to form teams and compete in VEX Robotics Competitions. One of the teams that participated in the girls workshop 2 years ago won the Middle School VEX Robotics World Championship this year!
If you are interested in participating in this 2 day workshop, please use the information below to learn a little more and register for the upcoming event.
We have some very special guest speakers and booths, eg: Physics Girl , Ziro Robotics, speakers from Google Robotics, etc are planned for the event this year. We will share more details in the next few days.
Space is limited, so sign up by July 14th to take advantage of this unique opportunity.
Workshop Registration Link - Requires 3 girls to register
Interest Form - If you don’t have 3 girls to register a team add your name to the interest form. We will help you form a team with others who are interested in a team
Who Can Register
The workshop is designed to have 3 to a maximum of 4 girls per team. Only girls 12+ in middle and high school are eligible to participate in this event. Each team should also have one adult mentor. The parent/mentor must be at least 18 years old, and can be a parent or a teacher. Since the role of the parent/mentor for each team is to supervise and facilitate the team’s progress, they do not need any prior robotics experience. We will have several trained volunteers on site to assist each team with advanced robotics questions. All participants are required to be fully vaccinated (a minimum of two weeks past the second shot no exceptions) to join this workshop. All participants will also be required to bring a signed participant release form.
Workshop Team Fees
There will be a fee of $180 per team (approx $45 per participant for a 4 girl team, for both days) (the fee is fixed for each team and is independent of the number of team members). This fee will be waived for girls and teams that have any financial difficulty. Please email email@example.com with information on the nature of the financial difficulty. We will waive the fees.
We will provide the robotics kits to be used at the workshop, and we will have trained volunteers supporting the teams throughout the event. Each day will begin at 8:00 AM and will finish at 5:30 PM (tentative times). On the second day, the teams will use the robots that they build to compete against each other and win prizes. We will provide boxed lunches and some snacks for all the participants. We may not be able to accommodate all dietary restrictions so please be prepared to bring your own lunch/snacks if you have special dietary restrictions.
More details on the workshop and lunch options will be provided through follow-up emails for those that register for the workshop.
Once you have 3 participants and a mentor identified, here are the step by step instructions on how to formally register a team.
Step by Step Registration Instructions
An adult has to register the entire team and pay the fees
DO NOT register a VEX VRC team for $150
DO NOT have the girls register as mentors, only adults can be mentors
Step 1: Create a RobotEvents account if you don't already have one. Click the 'Register' button on the upper right corner. After you finish the first step go to step 2. Do not click any button on the screen there to register a team. Follow step 2.
Step 2: Click the register yourself button on this Workshop home page and register the MENTOR or the registering parent. Click “Save and Return to Event”, do not click any other button.
Step 3: Come back to the main Workshop page and then pick the mentor from the drop down for the Attendee button. Click the “Register Selected Workshop Members”. This will open up a set of questions asking for information about all the participants including the mentor
Step 4: Complete the form with the information for all the team members (mentors, backup mentors and girls). Please ensure that you provide all the information indicated in the prompt. Please register between 3 and 4 girls (minimum of 3 girls). You will have the option to change the names of the participants until we close registration, but we require at least 3 names to secure a spot and register a team.
Step 5: Pay the fees of $180 for the entire team (the mentor is responsible for coordinating the collection of fees from the team participants). If there is a financial reason you are unable to afford the fees please write to the contact email (firstname.lastname@example.org) giving us the reasons, and we will waive the fees. This completes the registration process.
If you do not have 3 participants to form a team and are interested in finding others in your area with interest to form a team, please enter your contact information in this form. All information input into this form will be shared with everyone interested in forming a team. Once you enter the information in this form you will receive a link with the contact information of others who are interested in forming a team.
Please also forward this flyer to others who may be interested and spread the word in your school and community.
