On each of the two weekends in July (Workshop A: July-11-12, Workshop B: July 18-19), Google will be sponsoring a 2 day girls only workshop STRICTLY for middle and high school girls (girls currently in 5th grade going to 6th grade are eligible - rising 6th graders) and their teachers/mentors who are interested in learning about the VEX Robotics Program. Workshops A and B are identical so please sign up for one of the workshops if you are interested. This is also for girls who have no robotics experience. Girls who have been to previous workshops are discouraged from signing up so that we can accommodate students.
Last year we held the tournament at the Google Event Center in Sunnyvale, CA and had over 850 middle and high school girls participate in this 2 day event.

The two day VEX Robotics Girl Powered Workshop in is a collaboration between the Robotics Education & Competition (REC) Foundation and Google. In the VEX Robotics Competition - teams of students are tasked with designing and building a robot to play against other teams in a game-based engineering challenge. This 2-day workshop will be held at the Google Campus in Sunnyvale, CA.
This is open to any girl who is a beginner or has very limited experience with robotics and would like to learn more about designing, building and programming robots. One mentor or a teacher being part of a team registration is needed. and will be part of the team. The team can be anywhere from 3 to 5 girls. A team can have upto 2 mentors (one mentor / team is required), the mentor can be a parent or a teacher. No prior experience is required for either the participant or the mentor. We will have several trained volunteers there to assist each team, the role of mentor and parent is to facilitate the teams.
There will be a fee of $300 per team of upto 5 girls (the fee is fixed/team and s independent of the number of girls in the team). This fee will be waived for teams that have financial difficulty. Please email email@example.com with information on the nature of the financial difficulty. Google and REC will provide kits for the workshop and will have staff volunteers to support the teams throughout the event. The day will begin at 8:00 AM and will finish at 5:30 PM (tentative times). On day 2 the teams will use the robots that they build to compete against each other and win cool prizes! Lunch will be provided, but you will have to make your own travel and hotel arrangements. For those interested in volunteering, the volunteer sign up form will be provided closer to the event.
