General Info

This workshop will explore hands-on programming of VEX Version 5 Robots.  Northland Community and Technical College is proud to host this workshop in the Manufacturing Lab Space.  In addition to learning how to program VEX V5 Robots, learners will see how similar technologies are used on industrial robots and advanced manufacturing equipment.

Northland Community and Technical College is developing a fleet of robots which will be used during this programming workshop.  These all-new robots will feature the VEX V5 hardware and variety of sensors like the new vision sensor for navigation and control of the robot.  Learners will not be building and designing robots during this camp.  The intent of this experience is to beef up your programming skills.  We will be using the VEX Coding Studio Software and writing the programs in the text-based C++ programming language. Graphical programming will not be used.

Students will progress through a series of activities featuring specific components. At the end of each activity there will be a mini-challenge where learners put to use their new programming knowledge.  Here is a list of a few activity topics:

  • Programming Basics & Structure
  • Joystick and Driver Control Commands
  • LCD Screens – Displaying Information
  • V5 Motor Commands for wheels, lifting arms
  • Autonomous programming
  • Using Sensors
  • Vision Sensor

This programming workshop is open to students going into 8-12 Grade for the 2019-2020 School year.  This workshop is recommended for individuals who are serious about learning V5 programming.  If you are part of a VEX Robotics Competition team this workshop will sharpen your programmig skills and benefit your competition team.
