Refunds provided up to June 13th minus a $5 processing fee.

Emergency/Bad Weather Policy

Class will not be rescheduled due to bad weather since it requires booking the event space months in advance. We will refund the entrance fee if cancelled (minus processiong fee of $5).

Volunteer

Parents and potential mentors are welcome to come help or learn at the camp for free.  Please contact Susan Rolfes 605-677-8049 prior to the camp.

Agenda

Friday, June 15th, 9:00am-5:00pm, Robot design, and Saturday, June 16th, 10:00am-5:00pm, RobotC programming for VEX IQ.

There will be 2 youth per VEX IQ Super Kit. Coaches/parents are invited to attend for free (share youth’s book-bring lunch) if you let me know prior to the camp. I will also stay Saturday night and go through the steps to form competitive teams to compete in VEX IQ, if there is interest.

VEX IQ CAMP DAY 1 DESIGN

  • What is Engineering?
  • What is Robotics?
  • Engineering Design Process
  • Using VEX Hardware
  • Using the VEX IQ Controller and Robot Brain (pairing, menus, calibrating joystick)
  • VEX IQ Sensor Overview
  • Drivetrains-scrub, omni-wheels, and holonomic drives
  • Object Manipulation-plows, scoops, Friction grabbers, and conveyors
  • Friction
  • Center of Gravity
  • Speed, Torque, and Power
  • DC Motors
  • Gear Ratio-How to gear your robot for speed and torque
  • Lifting Mechanisms-Degrees of Freedom, Rotating Joints, elevators, and linkages

Each group of 2 youth will build out "Flex" to lift the hubs and the robot on a suspended bar to participate in the VEX IQ Challenge Next Level- 2018-2019 VEX IQ Challenge Game (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJML1_JNCLI&feature=youtu.be).  There will not be time to complete the mini-desgn challenges that previous camps have allowed for.

General Info

The camp for 4th-8th graders will be taught by Susan Rolfes (founder/4-year coach of Vermillion Area Robotics Club teams) with help from VARC youth/mentors.  These will be very fast-paced camps but no previous robotics experience is necessary-just robotics or programming interest!
