General Info

Holmes Middle School is delighted to host the 2024 VEX in the Valley Valentine Event, a VEX Spin Up Tournament. The event will be open to 40 Middle and High school teams. Winning specific awards at this event will qualify teams to attend the California Event Regional Championship. This event will be limited to four teams per school. Once the event is full, a waiting list will be created for teams who were unable to register. This waiting list will also be available for you to sign up additional team, but precedence will be given to schools/organizations who are not yet registered. On-site parking is free.

Team Registration is planned to be open be at 7:30 am.

Teams must be checked in 45 minutes prior to the start of the qualification matches so that the match schedule may be printed. Teams must contact the event partner if they are running late or they will be removed from the team list for the event.

Teams must be paid two weeks prior to the event. Teams not paid at this time may be dropped at the event partner's discretion to allow teams in from the wait list.

3:00 pm     Elimination matches begin and Skills events close

5:00 pm     Competition event closes


** Skills is planned to be open from 7 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 10 as well.  This is to help minimize foot traffic in the venue

Emergency/Bad Weather Policy

In the case of bad weather conditions or possible cancellations, please visit the event on where updates about the event status will be posted as needed.  Please make sure your team contact information is up to date in in the event we need to contact your team.

Refund and Payment Policies

Event payments are expected when you register for this event and must be completed a minimum of 2 weeks prior to the event date.  Unpaid teams will be removed from the event, allowing space for teams on the wait list.  Due to the financial commitment on the part of the event venue, no refunds will be possible. Thank you for your understanding. It is essential that all teams check in before 8:00 am.

Holmes Middle School is located in Northridge, CA at 9351 Paso Robles Avenue, Northridge, CA 91325.

The school is between Nordhoff (South) and Plummer (North), West of Balboa Blvd.

At this time we are unsure if we will be able to provide food or onsite concessions as we have in the past for event participants.  However there are a number of nearby options available.  Below are the two closest clusters of options avaialble.

Judging Format

In-Person Judging - The Team Interviews will be judged in-person the day of the event.

Electronic Engineering Notebook Submissions are being considered for early review by the Judges and further details will be made available as we get closer to the event: Team interviews will be conducted in-person at the Event. Engineering notebooks will be submitted electronically for evaluation, with a submission deadline that may be scheduled ahead of the event date.
