We will continue the high school event as planned. Please be cautious of weather conditions and accumulating snow. Let us know if you cannot make it or will be delayed. Safe travels!

WEATHER UPDATE:

We are forecast to get a potential of 4" to 9" of snow from 11pm tonight 1/18/24 to 1am Saturday 1/20/24. As of noon today we plan to proceed as per the current event schedule.

If you are travelling on Friday morning and are delayed, we need to hear from you by 10 am to make sure we include you in the schedule. If you are unable to attend the event we would appreciate that you communicate that information as soon as you can.

We will reasses the conditions later today and will post any changes to the schedule by 9 pm tonight.

Welcome to the Kalahari Classic VRC High School Signature Event 2024!

This will be a fun, challenging, and competitive event for all.

Fun because you have access to one to the largest indoor water-park within the United States of America. Challenging because we aim to bring the best of the best VEX Robotics teams together from Ohio and the surrounding states so we can better prepare our students for the future. We had teams from eight States last year and hope to add additional States this year. There will be three World Spots offered at this event. Set up similar to VEX Worlds, enables us to offer for a great student experience for all!

Friday January 19th

A brief welcome to everyone will be made at 10.45.
Competition starts at 11.15 and will run until 5.30 pm.

Saturday January 20th

Doors open at 7.45 am.
Matches start at 8.00 am and we will complete qualifiers at 1.20 pm. All teams will have completed 8 matches.
Spherion Interviews 8.30 am - Noon
Elimination Rounds will start at 2.30 pm.
Finals should start at 5.00 pm.
Awards 5.30 pm.

Emergency/Bad Weather Policy

Teams will be notified 24 hours prior to the event if there is a weather concern for the event.

Refund and Payment Policies

If the Event Partner cancels/postpones the event:

Due to the high costs involved with this event, a refund, will only be offered after all the event expenses has been taken care of.

If a Coach/Mentor completes registration for the event then chooses to withdraw or not attend:

If a team cancels and we can replace them with another team then a full refund less $5 will be sent out. Unfortunately, due to the high costs involved with this event, if we cannot replace the team then no refund will be sent out.

Judging Format

All In-Person Judging - The Team Interviews and Engineering Notebooks will be judged in-person the day of the event. Teams should bring a physical copy of their notebook to submit to the judges.

Payment

Payment is required by November 1st, 2023. If payment is not received by this date then your team(s) will be moved to the waitlist.

Important Reservation Information

Resort Fee of $24.99 is waived

Standard Run of the House Sleeping rooms will provide four (4) wristbands each day to the nation’s largest indoor water park, additional person in sleeping room at $25.00 each per day. Larger rooms will include a greater amount of wristbands.

Deposit policy for individual reservations: One night (plus tax) at the time the reservation is made. Cancellation policy for individual reservations: 72 hours, or more, prior to arrival to receive full refund less $25.00 processing fee. Less than 72 hours prior to scheduled arrival forfeits entire deposit.

Signature Event Early Bird Policy

All Signature Events will have a specific Early Bird Registration that is independent of all local/regional Early Bird systems
- Each team starts the season with three (3) opportunities to register during the Signature Event Early-Bird period
  - An opportunity is taken away each time the team registers for a Signature Event, whether during the Signature Event Early-Bird period or Standard period
  - A Signature Event Early-Bird opportunity is not taken away if a team registers for a tournament hosted by their school or organization (where the team’s coach is the Event Partner)
- Early Bird Registration will open 16 weeks before the event at 12:00PM EST
  - Note: Modifications to this may be made for events in August and September
- Standard Registration will open 14 weeks before the event at 12:00PM EST
- An Event Partner may register their own teams to their Signature Event during Signature Event Early Bird Registration no matter how many other Signature Events they are already registered for
  - The Event Partner must be the Primary Contact for the teams they are registering
