Where:

Battle by the Beach will be hosted at Texas A&M Galveston.

It will consist of two blended events VEX IQ's Slap-shot & VEX VRC's Spin Up. 

Our Staff:

We have some amazing referees who have been in the VEX game for longer than anyone around. They recently volunteered at the World Championship in Dallas and are amazing! A few are actually former World Champions!

Our judges will be current students and staff from Texas A&M. Students will be able to ask them questions as well, and are highly encouraged to prepare a list of questions that they would like to know about typical college life, tough assignments, or the campus itself. 

Live streaming:

Our event will be live-streamed on YouTube. Links will be posted and shared prior to the event. 

Fun stuff to do!

Sea life Facilities:

Students will be provided walk though tours of our sea life facility from 9am- 4PM Friday and Saturday. More detailed tours will be provided to those who sign up at the event. The detailed tours will be limited and are on a first come basis. Space is limited. 

Ship Simulators: 

Ship simulators will be open for tours from 10:30 AM - 4:00PM on Friday and Saturday. 

In depth, training will be provided to interested students on Friday from 5PM- 6PM. 

A sign-up will be on sight and provided on a first-come basis. Space is limited. 

Sea Camp Dissections: 

Opportunities to explore cartilaginous fish and the bony fish will be available from 9-5 Friday and Saturday. These will be walk up labs and no scheduling is needed.

Vendors: 

Vendor exploration will be set up in the Flag Room. Vendors will have booths for students to navigate throughout the day based on availability in their match schedule times.

Food and drinks- No outside food or drink may be brought into the Main unless medically necessary and are communicated prior to the event. Picnic areas will be provided outside. It is our hope that students will enjoy dining with the students and staff at the highly-rated facilities on campus and fully indulge in "campus life".

All lunches Must be ordered by November 4th. An email with an order form will be distributed to the email associated with each registered team. 

Lunches will be picked up in the Flag room. Please only send coaches to pick up meals for the team.

Drive team meeting: 

To simplify the day of the event and really give our teams the opportunity to think up some good questions for our coaches, the google form must be completed prior to October 21st. Please list which game your question is pertaining to. A link with the drive team meeting will be sent out to the email associated with the account prior to the tournament.  This will be a prerecorded video that teams can watch at their leisure. This way, students are afforded more time to explore all that the event offers.

If the Event Partner cancels/postpones the event: 

  • Refunds will be provided.

If a Coach/Mentor completes registration for the event and then chooses to withdraw or not attend: 

  • No refunds will be processed. 

Health and Safety Policies

All students are under the supervision of their coaches. 

All behavior will be a direct reflection of the student's program.  Please make sure that the students are making their program proud. 

At events, safe behavior, such as but not limited to staying with your team, not running, and wearing safety goggles at the field and when appropriate building times call for them demonstrates a team's ability to prioritize safe practices. It is an expectation that students will uphold the highest standards of behavior and professionalism.

Judging Format

Electronic Engineering Notebook Submissions: Team interviews will be conducted in person at the Event. Engineering notebooks will be submitted electronically for evaluation. Notebooks are due October 31st at midnight.
