Welcome:

Welcome to A Day at the Mall VRC Tournament!!  We are looking forward to an exciting day of competition. 

This will be a combined Middle and High School event.  Robot skills, judged awards, and engineering notebook judging will be available.  Please turn in the team’s engineering notebook at the inspection table.  Teams with a digital engineering notebook must provide a printed hard copy.

CHANGE of Location:

This tournament will be held at the Manassas Mall, 8300 Sudley Rd, Manassas Virginia.  The competition, skills, and practice fields will be located in a large open area.  The pits will be located within a storefront not far from the competition fields.  Specific locations within the mall will be forthcoming.

CHANGE in Directions:  Maps, entrance location, and directions will be forthcoming.

Payment:
Unless a payment date/plan has been pre-coordinated via email with the EP, the registration fee must be paid by January 26, 2024, otherwise, the team will be moved to the waitlist. 

UPDATED Concession/Lunch Information:

We plan to have a small concession stand, offering water and snacks.  There are several fast-food restaurants in the mall, including Sbarro (pizza, etc.), Charleys Philly Steaks, Pupuseria, Subway, Ginnies Bakery, Tequeno World, Nori Japan, McDonalds, and Grill Kabob.  With the number of teams and students we plan to have at this event, we recommend that you pre-order pizzas.  As we get closer to the event, you will receive an email with additional information on ordering ahead.

COVID protocols for this event:

Please visit the Health and Safety Policies information page to stay abreast of any updates to the COVID protocol for this event.  If the protocol for this event changes, all teams will be notified.

Participant Release Form:

A Participant Release Form/Consent Form must be completed and uploaded for each team participant (students, coaches, and mentors) prior to the event.  As a reminder, only those team members and coaches/mentors with a signed Participant Release Form/Consent Form will be allowed to participate.   Please take a few minutes to electronically sign your forms as soon as possible. Upon arrival, all team members, coaches, and mentors must sign in at the check-in table.  The check-in list will identify all participants who have signed forms available online as of Saturday, Feb. 3, 2024.  Please take a few minutes to complete the forms as soon as possible.

9:00 am – 4:25 pm:  Skills Fields Open – (Closed during lunch break and at the end of the last qualification match)

9:15 am – 12:15 pm:  Qualification Matches

12:15 pm - 1:00 pm:  Lunch Break (Skills Fields closed)

1:00 pm – 4:25 pm:  Qualification Matches (Skills Fields close after the last qualification match)

4:30 pm – 5:00 pm:  Alliance Selection

Emergency/Bad Weather Policy

An email will be sent to each team's primary and secondary POC in the event of bad weather. Teams should note that Northern Virginia area weather may differ from other parts of Virginia and should plan accordingly.  This tournament will be canceled only if The Dulles Town Center Mall closes due to the weather.  If a team is unable to attend due to weather, we will not offer refunds to no-shows due to poor weather.

Refund and Payment Policies

If the Event Partner cancels the event: 

  • If the Event Partner cancels the event due to bad weather, unforeseen circumstances, or COVID restrictions, the refund will be $40 per registered team.

If a Coach/Mentor completes registration for the event and then chooses to withdraw or not attend:

  • No refund will be issued.  However, once the event reaches maximum capacity, and if your slot can be filled by a team on the waitlist, we will be happy to refund your registration fee, less $10.00.

Unpaid Teams:

  • On Friday, January 26, 2024, unpaid teams will be placed on the waitlist, unless a payment date/plan has been pre-coordinated via email with the EP.

Judging Format

  • All In-Person Judging - The Team Interviews and Engineering Notebooks will be judged in-person the day of the event. Teams should bring a physical copy of their notebook to submit to the judges.
