Health and Safety Policies
While our reopening plan implements the latest guidance from the CT State Department of Education, it is important to remember that things not only might change, they will. We will continue to be flexible in our approach in compliance with state guidance and best practices as we strive to keep everyone safe.
Before/After School Programs, Sports, and Activities:
Before/After School Programs, Sports, and Activities will proceed as planned, with consideration for spacing and outdoors as appropriate. Fully vaccinated students/staff do not have to quarantine from sports or other activities provided they remain asymptomatic after close contact with a known COVID-19 case.
Mask Use:
Masks are no longer mandatory in the Killingly Public schools for all students, staff, and visitors.
Social DIstancing:
The Department of Public Health continues to recommend that schools maximize the distance between students to the extent feasible, with the goal of limited potential virus transmission. We will space students at least 3 feet of distance apart, when feasible with available space.
Hygiene/Handwashing:
Frequent handwashing is still a recommended mitigation strategy to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and other infectious diseases. Schools will continue to teach and implement routines for hand-washing at specified points during the day. All classrooms and school offices will be outfitted with hand sanitizing stations.
Vaccination:
Increasing vaccination rates in our students, staff, and community is our greatest strategy in keeping students learning in-person. Vaccination is currently available to everyone 12 years of age and older and appointments are readily available at pharmacies and health centers.
Diagnostic Screening, Reporting Illnesses, and Testing:
We will continue to emphasize that students stay home when they are sick. Parents will continue to follow health screening protocols that we have established based on recommendations from the Center for Disease Control (CDC), the State of Connecticut, and the Killingly Health Department. We have encouraged both staff and eligible students to be vaccinated as this is the best mitigation tool to keep our community safe. Through our partnerships with the Killingly Health Department, we have been able to provide clinics for both staff and students, and will continue to do so if needed.
