The Firestone Robotics Club is proud to present the First Annual Dan Spak Memorial Robotics Competition.
Dan Spak founded our club in 2011 as an after school opportunity for students to explore engineering concepts beyond the classroom. The first robot our club ever built was powered by pulling a string. Since then, our teams have won awards at many regional competitions, States and Worlds. Dan Spak was named Ohio's VEX Robotics Coach of the Year in 2019. On April 11, 2020, Mr. Spak passed away unexpectedly. We will continue to honor his vision for our club and the VEX Robotic community throughout Ohio and beyond. Thank you Mr. Spak. We miss you.
This competition will take place at: Firestone CLC located at 470 Castle Blvd, Akron, OH 44313.
There will be no concessions. Each school is responsible for providing their own meals for participating students.
Due to social-disctancing guidelines, there will be no room for spectators but we will live stream the event.
Masks are required. Proper mask wearing is required at all times which includes covering the nose.
8:00 am - Staff and volunteers arrive for competition
9:00 am - Doors open/teams arrive/robot inspection begins
10:00 am - Drivers meetings
10:15 am - Qualification matches begin/skills fields open
Noon - Lunch break/skills runs
Each school will be responsible for providing food and beverages for their participating students
Students will eat in the cafeteria at assigned tables
1:00 pm - Qualification matches resume
2:00 pm - Qualification matches end/skills close
2:15 pm - Alliance selection
2:30 pm - Elimination matches
3:30 pm - Finals and Awards
Due to COVID we will not be looking for volunteers at this time.
In the event of bad weather conditions or an emergency causing delay or cancellation, all coaches will be contected by email to be informed of the situation.
No refunds after event registration is closed.
All events follow the REC, Ohio Department of Health, Summit County Public Health, and Akron City School Board policies for safety and operation. Because of the changing nature of the guildelines, any pertinent details will be emailed directly to participants closer to the event date.
All matches will be livestreamed on YouTube.
