The Illinois VRC State Championship will be a blended event with middle school and high school teams competing in the same event. Teams can choose whether to compete in-person in a regular match-play tournament format, or a pre-recorded remote skills only format. The event capacity is 32 teams but there is no guarantee all State spots will be filled.
At the in-person event at ISU:
March 13 - The last day that skills scores will be considered for filling open spots at IL State Championship.
March 14 Noon - Invitations will be issued from the Worlds Skills Standings list to fill State Championship.
Week of March 15 - A link for teams to select a judging time slot will be emailed to the team’s Primary Contact early this week. Additional invitations may be issued during this week to replace teams that qualified but declined the invitation.
March 19th Midnight - Notebook links due Click here for the Judge Guide Appendix for requirements on the link to the digital engineering notebook.
March 21 Midnight - Deadline for State Registration and Interview Selection - if teams wish to be eligible for Judged awards.
March 22 - 25 Remote judging sessions (all teams will be judged remotely).
March 25 - 29 One pre-recorded skills video link may be submitted during this timeframe, along with the link for the team's digital engineering notebook. An email will be sent to the team's Primary Contact and will include a Google Form to collect the link to the team's video.

April 3 - In-person State Championship at ISU, follow-up interviews conducted remotely with judging finalists as needed.
All teams, whether in-person or remote skills only, are eligible for the Judged Awards. Teams that compete in the remote skills only format will be eligible to qualify to VEX Worlds by winning one of the qualifying judged awards listed below or from the World Skills Standings as outlined below. Since the remote skills teams are not participating in match play, they are not eligible for the Tournament Champions or Tournament Finalists awards. This tournament structure has been issued a variance by the REC Foundation.
Illinois State Championship will be a blended event this season, with High School and Middle School teams competing together. Middle school teams will receive their 6 spots to VEX Worlds, and High School teams will receive their 9 spots to VEX Worlds. These are the qualifying awards and how they will be issued to teams:

(1) Design Award, HS or MS
(2) Tournament Champions, HS or MS
(2) Tournament Finalists, HS or MS
(1) Robot Skills Champion, HS or MS
(1) Innovate Award, HS or MS
(1) Think Award, HS or MS
Qualifying from World Skills Standings:
Double qualifications (example, same team wins HS Excellence and Tournament Champions) will be filled by the next highest team on the World Skills Standings which includes skills posted up to and including State Championship, with respect to the level, MS or HS, of the double qualification.
Unfilled qualifications (example, MS teams win MS Excellence Award and one Tournament Finalists spot, so 4 MS qualification spots remain unfilled) will be filled by the next highest team on the World Skills Standings which includes skills posted up to and including State Championship, with respect to the level, MS or HS, of the unfilled qualification.
This qualification process ensures the assigned number of VEX Worlds spots will be allocated to each level.
World Championship qualifying awards and invitations are issued to teams whether or not the teams have expressed an intention to attend the event. Unaccepted World Championship invitations are not offered or transferred to other teams.
Qualifying from local Illinois events to Illinois State
Tournaments that qualify to State will receive four qualifying spots (with judging) or two qualifying spots (no judging). Skills only events, including remote skills only events, that qualify to State will receive three qualifying spots (with judging) or one qualifying spot (no judging). These spot assignments follow the Qualifying Criteria document. Retroactive qualifications for past events will be issued this Wednesday, February 3.
If qualifications from events do not fill State Championship, teams within the top 25% of skills scores at their respective grade level will be invited. That threshold could be raised to further fill State Championship, but there is no assurance that State will be filled to capacity. And as always, this plan is subject to change depending on current conditions.
All the events will take place on the lower level of the Bone Student Center. Competitors and coaches should be dropped off and enter the building at the west entrance next to the circle drive on N. University Street. This is so we can take student's and coaches temps as they exit your vehicle, even before they enter the building. Click Here for a campus map to help with parking. Car and Minibus parking will be located in the lot directly north of the student center. The lot is supposed to be open for the Easter weekend... but if you are issued a parking slip to get in, we can comp your parking, see me during the event. If you are bringing a full-size bus, we have parking available close by, in the gravel lot labeled G64 on W Locust street; please contact me with parking or drop-off questions.

Due to the logistics of this event, this event will not be canceled. If bad weather was to occur, use your own discretion on attending the event. Some suggestions are to come a day early to get ahead of the weather or stay an additional day to avoid travel in adverse conditions.
Due to the complexity of this event, there are no refunds for this event at all 2020-2021 Season.
