General Info
Welcome to the 1st Annual Damien Spartan Skills-Only Challenge - High School Tournament. We are excited to bring together some of Southern California's finest teams and battle for a chance to go to the state championships. If this event is full please place yourself on the wait list.
No spectators are allowed (at this time) and all participants must follow the health and safety rules given by the Event Partner. Please review the entire event posting prior to registering.
Teams must be paid one week prior to the event. Teams not paid at this time may be dropped at the event partner's discretion to allow teams in from the wait list.
*Please check your email and robotevents.com regularly for any updates about this event. We may have to switch to a "remote skills-only event" where teams will livestream their skills runs for our crew to oberve and score, specific information will be e-mailed to registered teams if the need arises. By registering for this event, you accept the possibility of a change in event format at the Event Partner's sole discretion.
Competition Preparation
As we are in the midst of the pandemic, the following precautions will be implemented to minimize the risk.
1) It is mandatory to wear face mask and face shield to participate in this skills event.
2) Most of the activities of skills event will be conducted outdoors (Team Check-in, Pit area, Inspection, Driver infomations, etc). No spectators and parents are allowed to visit the venue.
3) Actual Robot Skills will be conducted indoors in two seperate fields. At any point not more than 6 people will be present in the room.
4) Event will be Webcast. (We will post link on Robotevents.com)
5) Please bring your own face mask and face shield.
6) 3 students per team will be allowed in the indoor facility during their skills to maintain not more than 6 people limit in the building.
7) Each team will be assigned 30 mins time slot from morning 8 am to 5pm. When teams arrive they will undergo team checkin, inspection and take their Robot skills.
8) Time slots selection Google form will be sent two days before the event for Skills. Teams can choose their preferred timeslot based on first come, first reserve basis. You need to be flexible and by registering, you understand that you may have to pick a time slot sometime between 8am and 5pm.
9) Each team can take a maximum of 3 driver skills and 3 programming skills in the skills event.
10) Subsequently Teams will have remote design interview with the judges. Time slots selection Google form will be sent two days before the event for Judging. Teams can choose their preferred timeslot based on first come, first reserve basis. You need to be flexible and by registering, you understand that you may have to pick a time slot sometime between 8am and 5pm.
11) Please submit your Electronic digital Engineering Notebook two days before the event date to be considered for Judged Awards. 12) At the end of the Skills event Awards will be announced via webcast. (link will be on robotevents.com)
13) Winning teams can pick their awards up from Damien High School on the following day (or make other mutually agreed upon arrangements with us).
14) Time to pick up the award will be communicated to the team.
Teams that have not checked in within 15 minutes of their scheduled time will be dropped from the roster.
Teams that have not paid one week before the event date may be dropped at the event partner's discretion to allow teams in from the waitlist.
Competition Preparation
This event is sure to be a fast-paced and exciting event. All teams should come prepared for competition. Here are a few steps that every team should take to ensure that they are prepared.
1. Review the rules and run through the inspection checklist about a week before the competition so that there is ample time for adjustments. Please make sure to keep in mind at all times.
2. Check the official VEX forums for rule updates and changes.
3. Carefully read all of the information contained in the tournament posting on RobotEvents.com
4. Pack for the event the day before the day of departure. Here are a few items that you don't want to forget.

5. Be sure to read 101 Things You Should Know Before Your First VEX Tournament.
6. Review the descriptions and criteria for the awards that are being given during the tournament.
7. Prep for your interviews with the judges. Check the awards tab to see what awards will be given during the tournament.
8. Remember that safety comes first, please don't bring tools that pose a safety risk to your team, or others nearby.
9. Understand how the game will be played. VEX participants are more than welcome to watch the referee training videos before they attend a tournament. The referee training videos can be found at vexrobotics.com
Participation and Consent Form
A completed form for all participants must be uploaded on robotevents.com - no paper forms are accepted. Team leaders will need to ensure the completed forms for all team members are uploaded to their RobotEvents account.

Emergency/Bad Weather Policy
The event partner will contact teams if the event must be postponed. Teams should make sure their contact information in Robotevents.com is up to date and includes both school and non-school phone numbers.
Due to Covid 19 changes to the event format are possible. Please check email and robotevents.com regularly.
Refund and Payment Policies
There will be no refunds available for teams that choose to cancel due to fixed costs for the event partner.
Signing up for this tournament is an accpetance of the potential change in event format described under the General Info tab, and no refunds will be offered unless the event needs to be cancelled in total. Any refunds, if issued, will be less the $5 RobotEvents processing fee. All refunds are in the sole discretion of the event partner.

This section will be updated with more specific information as we get closer to the event to comply with locally applicable health regulations. It is unlikely spectators will be allowed and the number of participants per team may be limited. Please ssume that spectators are not allowed and please do not plan to have them in attendance.
