Travel Info

Hotels

There are lots in the area. It's an off week in the middle of the Cal Poly term, so negotiate!

Driving Directions

From California 101, exit at Santa Rosa/Highway 1 and proceed WEST to Highland Avenue. Turn right onto the Cal Poly campus. Turn right at University Avenue, and right again at the first entrance into the parking lot. AT THIS TIME (Aug 2016) parking is free on Saturday, but you will have to feed the parking meters lots of quarters on Friday evening if you arrive then.

Refund Policy

Refund Policy

If you let me know before December 31, 2019, that you cannot make the meet, I can refund to you the amount that you paid, less the processing fee from Robot Events. After December 31, I can't guarantee any refunds.

Emergency/Bad Weather Policy

Emergency/Bad Weather Policy

This is the California Central Coast! We won't have bad weather. But if it does rain, it will rain hard. If rain is predicted, bring an umbrella to keep your students dry as they move from Bonderson to ATL, and we will provide a garbage bag to drape over your robot to keep it dry.

The event partner will contact teams if the event must be postponed. Teams should make sure their contact information in Robotevents.com is up to date and includes both school and non-school phone numbers

General Info

Location

This event will be held in the Bonderson and ATL buildings on the Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo campus. Here is a map of Cal Poly,

http://www.maps.calpoly.edu/flashmap/map.html

The Engineering Plaza is area 13 to the east of the library. Bonderson is building 197 and ATL is building 7. There is an open area between the two buildings. In the event of rain, protection for robots (large plastic garbage bags) will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own.

SWE and SLO-Botics

The Society of Women Engineers sponsors this event with the San Luis Obispo High School Robotics team (SLO-Botics). Remember this is put on by all volunteers, so thank them for their efforts. The judging, refereeing, and inspections are done almost exclusively by Cal Poly Engineering students. Encourage your students to talk to them about what it takes to major in engineering at Cal Poly.

Campus Tours

Campus tours can be arranged: https://admissions.calpoly.edu/visit

To arrange an Engineering Department tour contact: https://engineering.calpoly.edu/ceng-tours

Please note that I have no ability to influence how fast you get a response. I would suggest, based on past experience, that you contact them for a tour as soon as you know you are coming.

Check-In / Inspection

Check-In/ Inspection will begin on Friday at 6:00 PM. Check-in and inspection are both in the lobby of ATL. If you have your robot inspected then, you will need to leave it locked in the building or have it re-inspected in the morning.

Check-In on Friday is OPTIONAL. You are welcome to arrive, check in, and be inspected on Saturday. However, any robots not checked in and inspected by 9:00 AM will not be able to compete. Teams that are running late must contact me at 805-748-2192 if they are running late or they will be removed from the team list for the event.

Food and Drink

You are welcome to bring all the food and drink you want, but you may only bring water into the ATL building.

We will try to have pizza for sale as we usually do for lunch. You will get an order form with the details email in January.

Other than that there are some food options available on campus, and many more within a mile radius of campus.

Driving Directions

From California 101 (North or South), exit at Santa Rosa/Highway 1 and proceed WEST to Highland Avenue. Turn right onto the Cal Poly campus. Turn right at University Avenue, and right again at the first entrance into the parking lot. AT THIS TIME (June 2019) I can't tell if the metered parking in lot H2 is free on Saturday. I will let registered teams know if this changes. You will have to feed the parking meters lots of quarters on Friday evening if you arrive then. They also have a metering app, https://afd.calpoly.edu/parking/parkingoncampus/meters.

What to Bring

If this is your first tournament, check out this document:

http://www.vexwiki.org/robotics_competitions/101_things

Please bring all your parts, computers, programs, robots, notebooks, etc, etc, etc. We will have one table and two chairs for each team. We will have at least two power sockets for each team to use. Think one for charging, one for the computer.

Team Payment

Please make sure you have paid for your teams by 12/31/2019, or let me know if you need to withdraw by that date. That way I can open up spots for the waitlist if any become available.
