General Info

The first V5RC Signature Event in Maine will be held on October 16 -18 in 2025. This event will of course be a great opportunity for teams to compete with others from around the nation and world and experiment with early to mid season strategies.

The event will be held at the University of Maine in Orono in their spacious and airy field house, the Memorial Gym.

Teams will compete over the course of 3 days for the title of Lobstah Bowl Champions.

All teams have a chance to participate in a Lobster dinner on Friday October 17th. Cost is $25 per seat.

The University is the flagship campus for the University of Maine System and is an R1 research University. It is also the home to the Advanced Structures and Composites Center, an advanced engineering and research facility that is home to the worlds largest 3D printers. Tours will be available to attendees throughout the duration of the event.

Skills matches will start in the afternoon of Day 1 with checkin, inspection and skills starting at noon.

Day 2 will be Qualifications and Skills

Day 3 will finish matches and move to eliminations and finals in the lat afternoon.

Payment deadline for the event is September 15th. If your school or orginization requires a lengthy period to process payment or cut a check, please start this process as soon as your teams have registered.

This event will advance 3 teams to the VEX Robotics World Championships: Excellence Award (1) Tournament Champions(2).*

*World Spot Eligibility:
Signature Events will be awarded World Championship qualification spots if they meet all established criteria set forth by the REC Foundation. Failure to fully comply with these criteria may result in the event being ineligible to receive World spots, regardless of prior expectations or historical precedent.

Emergency/Bad Weather Policy

In the event of bad weather, a decision will be made on how the competition will proceed and any changes will be communicated to teams via the main contact email address and/or via live announcment in the venue. This may include a delayed start or early end to matches on a competitoin day, extending or modifying hours on some days, or removal of matches from the competition schedule in order to complete the event.  Every effort will be reasonably made to continue the event as planned.

Refund and Payment Policies

Payment is due in full by Septembe 15th for this event. If a registered team fails to meet the deadline, they will be moved to the waitlist and a new team will be moved into the event. Teams moved from the waitlist will have 2 weeks to make payment.

If the Event Partner cancels the event: 

Full refunds less any recf processing and/or administrative fees will be issued.

If a Coach/Mentor completes registration for the event then chooses to withdraw or not attend:

No refeunds will be issued.

Judging Format

Digital Engineering Notebook Submissions / In Person Team Interviews: Team interviews will be conducted in-person at the event. Engineering notebooks will be submitted digitally for evaluation via a link found within the "My Account" panel of the team contact on RobotEvents. Notebooks are due by October 9, 2024. Interviews will be conducted for all teams at a central location. Teams may interview on their own time schedule. All initial interviews must be completed by 3:00 on Friday to be considered for awards.

Signature Event Early Bird Policy

  • All Signature Events will have a specific Early Bird Registration that is independent of all local/regional Early Bird systems
    • Each team starts the season with three (3) opportunities to register during the Signature Event Early-Bird period
      • An opportunity is taken away each time the team registers for a Signature Event, whether during the Signature Event Early-Bird period or Standard period
      • A Signature Event Early-Bird opportunity is not taken away if a team registers for a tournament hosted by their school or organization (where the team’s coach is the Event Partner)
    • Early Bird Registration will open 16 weeks before the event at 12:00PM EST
      • Note: Modifications to this may be made for events in August and September
    • Standard Registration will open 14 weeks before the event at 12:00PM EST
    • An Event Partner may register their own teams to their Signature Event during Signature Event Early Bird Registration no matter how many other Signature Events they are already registered for  
      • The Event Partner must be the Primary Contact for the teams they are registering
