General Info

The 2025 Alberta Provincial VEX Championships (middle school and high school divisions) presented by Syncrude will be hosted in Fort McMurray on February 21 and 22, 2025 at the Syncrude Sport and Wellness Centre at Keyano College. Fort McMurray Catholic School Division (FMCSD) and Fort McMurray Public School Division (FMPSD) are proud to be co-sponsors along with CNOOC and our title sponsor, Syncrude, of the 2025 VEX Robotics Alberta Provincial Championships. Both school divisions are excited to see the best of the best in Alberta VEX Robotics compete for spots to the VEX Robotics World Championships.

Venue: Syncrude Sport and Wellness Centre at Keyano College, 9908 Penhorwood Street, Fort McMurray, AB T9H 3N3

Robot Inspections, and Skills Challenge will be available Friday evening. The tournament will take place on Saturday.
The Competition fields and Skills fields will be located in the Canadian Natural Gymnasium. Pits, practice fields, the the inspection and judging areas will be located in Field House #3. 

A concession will be available on Saturday. There are also numerous restaurants in downtown Fort McMurray as well as delivery options available through services such as Skip the Dishes. 

Competition Preparation:
This event is sure to be an exciting one! All teams should come prepared for the competition. Here are a few steps that every team should take to ensure that they are prepared:

1. Review the rules, the code of conduct, and run through the inspection checklist.
2. Check the VEX Forum and the Q&A for official rule updates and changes.
3. Carefully read all of the information contained in this tournament posting
4. Review the descriptions and criteria for the awards that are being given during the tournament.
5. Prepare for your interviews with the judges. Check the awards tab to see what awards will be given during the tournament.
6. Ensure that you have the latest version of firmware.
7. Please bring your own extension cord and power expander.
8. Please bring indoor shoes.

If the event has to be cancelled due to weather, registrants will be notified and funds will be reimbursed. Please make sure your contact information is current in Robot Events.

Judging Format

All In-Person Judging - The Team Interviews and Engineering Notebooks will be judged in-person the day of the event. Teams should bring a physical copy of their notebook to submit to the judges. If your team has a Digital Engineering Notebook, please make sure you print a hard copy as digital notebooks will not be accepted. If you have questions, please contact Holly at [email protected]
