General Info

Welcome to the AFCEA Pikes Peak Classic Signature Event! This Signature Event starts a week of buzz in the region with the Rocky Mountain Cyberspace Symposium right after and throughout the week. 

The When:

This event will take place over the course of 2 days starting with check-in and Inspection at 7:00 AM and then Opening Ceremonies at 9:00 AM on February 9th, 2025.  Please see the Agenda tab for the full schedule.

The Where:

The Broadmoor Hotel, Colorado Springs, CO

Major addition--New exhibition hall opens at The Broadmoor

Paid Parking can be found across First St. eastward of Colorado Hall, or up beside Broadmoor Hall. Check the Broadmoor Campus Map for more details.

The What:

Try not to get too distracted by the beautiful and historic 5-star Hotel venue framed by the magnificent Front Range of the Colorado Rocky Mountains. This competition will be fast paced, featuring the 2024-2025 VEX V5 Robotics Competition game High Stakes!  In addition to multiple awards, 3 spots to the 2025 VEX Robotics World Championship are up for grabs!

Fields will be elevated.

Lunch options available on site are limited.  We are providing a 1-hour lunch break for participants to venture off-campus for lunch. The Broadmoor has a strict no-outside-food policy, so please plan accordingly for the extended afternoon match schedule.

Please remember to come prepared with all of your own power strips, tools, parts, etc.

This includes all students, teachers, coaches, mentors, parents, and spectators associated with a team.

February 9th

  • Inspection: Inspection will be open from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM in Colorado Hall at the Broadmoor on Sunday. Parking is not provided for teams, so we recommend carpooling. All teams must have their robots inspected and engineering notebooks submitted during this timeframe to participate.
  • Opening ceremonies:  9:00 AM.
  • Skills Open: 9:30 AM
  • Qualification Matches: 10:00AM-12:00PM
  • Lunch: 12:00PM - 1:00PM (Each team will receive a pizza or have one hour to get lunch in the nearby area.)

February 10th

Emergency/Bad Weather Policy

We will not cancel for bad weather. Coaches should make appropriate safety considerations regarding travel and attendance. Refunds will not be issued for team decisions related to weather. 

Refund and Payment Policies

If the Event Partner cancels the event: 

All payments will be refunded within 14 business days.

If a Coach/Mentor completes registration for the event and then chooses to withdraw or not attend:

No refunds will be provided. Payment is due by December 1st, and if teams move off of the waitlist after that date, they will submit payments immediately upon registering.

Judging Format

 

  • All In-Person Judging - The Team Interviews and Engineering Notebooks will be judged in-person the day of the event. Teams should bring a physical copy of their notebook to submit to the judges.

Signature Event Early Bird Policy

  • All Signature Events will have a specific Early Bird Registration that is independent of all local/regional Early Bird systems
    • Each team starts the season with three (3) opportunities to register during the Signature Event Early-Bird period
      • An opportunity is taken away each time the team registers for a Signature Event, whether during the Signature Event Early-Bird period or Standard period
      • A Signature Event Early-Bird opportunity is not taken away if a team registers for a tournament hosted by their school or organization (where the team’s coach is the Event Partner)
    • Early Bird Registration will open 16 weeks before the event at 12:00PM EST
      • Note: Modifications to this may be made for events in August and September and other events as deemed necessary by the REC Foundation
    • Standard Registration will open 14 weeks before the event at 12:00PM EST
    • An Event Partner may register their own teams to their Signature Event during Signature Event Early Bird Registration no matter how many other Signature Events they are already registered for  
      • The Event Partner must be the Primary Contact for the teams they are registering
