Competition Preparation

This event is sure to be fast-paced and exciting! All teams should come prepared for competition. Here are the steps to ensure you're ready:  

Preparation:

  1. Review rules & checklist (1 week before): www.roboticseducation.org/VEXS IQ Challenge (VEX IQ Event Documents)
  2. Check VEX IQ forums for rule updates.
  3. Read tournament information on RobotEvents.com.

Packing:

(Day before departure):

  • Spare parts & tools
  • Batteries and chargers
  • Programming cable
  • Power strip
  • Laptop computer
  • Engineering notebook (submit online)  
  • Team pit decorations (optional)

Additional Resources:

  • Read "101 Things You Should Know Before Your First VEX Tournament" in VEX liabrary
  • Review award descriptions and criteria for the tournament.
  • Prep for judge interviews (check awards tab for details).

Safety:

  • Priority! No unsafe tools or actions creating sparks (venue has limited space).

Robot Troubleshooting:

  • Read the Robot troubleshooting guide.

Consent Form:

  • Complete and submit online before check-in (team leaders collect for all members).

Grade Level: Region 5 middle school only

Skills Challenge Offered: Yes

Judging Format: All In-Person Judging and remote engineer notebook (submission deadline is 1 week before the tournament JAN 18 2025)

Lunch : please bring your own lunch or order delivery.

Emergency/Bad Weather Policy

In case of bad weather, teams will be contacted and tournament will be cancelled.

Refund and Payment Policies

If the Event Partner cancels the event: Refunds will be issued in the event that the event has to be cancelled or rescheduled or special circumstances arise. Deadline for refund will be one full week before event date.

 

If a Coach/Mentor completes registration for the event then chooses to withdraw or not attend: No Refund will be offered

Important Safety Guidelines

Please adhere to the following safety guidelines to ensure a safe and enjoyable event for all participants:

  1. Robot Safety:

    • Ensure your robot is structurally sound and free of any sharp edges or loose parts.
    • Always use caution when handling batteries and chargers.
    • Follow all safety guidelines provided in the VEX IQ Robotics Competition Manual.
  2. Personal Safety:

    • Wear closed-toe shoes at all times.
    • Be mindful of your surroundings and avoid running.
    • Use caution when bending or lifting heavy objects.
    • Follow all instructions from event staff and volunteers.
  3. Emergency Procedures:

    • In case of an emergency, notify the nearest event staff member or volunteer immediately.
    • Be aware of the location of the nearest emergency exits.
    • Follow any evacuation procedures as directed by event staff.

Judging Format

Digital Engineering Notebook Submissions / In Person Team Interviews: Team interviews will be conducted in-person at the event. Engineering notebooks will be submitted digitally for evaluation  via a link found within the "My Account" panel of the team contact on RobotEvents. A submission deadline that may be scheduled ahead of the event date.
