General Info

Thursday, January 23:  due to current weather conditions and snow-covered icy roads, Grandville Public Schools has made the decision to cancel the Vex IQ league night scheduled for Thursday, January 23.  The safety of our teams, students, and families is our top priority.

The second night of league has been rescheduled to Thursday, January 30. The event will maintain its regular timing and format.

League Nights will be held 5:30pm - 8:00pm

 Thursday, January 9 - Teamwork

 Thursday, January 30  - Teamwork (snow day rescheduled date)

 Thursday, February 6  - Teamwork

 Thursday, February 20 - League Championship.  Teams will compete in the Skills Challenge and Judging interviews.  All teams will be paired up and participate in Finals Matches.  

Event Location

The event will be held at the Grandville Robotics Competition Center located on the west side of Grandville Middle School.  VEX IQ team members and parents should use the Grandville Middle School entrance off Canal Ave, at the intersection of Canal and Jacob.  Enter through Door-O.

Team Pits

Teams will be assigned a 6-foot pit table with 4 chairs.  Coaches might want to bring a bag chair.  Teams will have access to electricity in the pit area.   

Registration Information

All participating teams must be registered with VEX Robotics and the Robot Events website and have an official team number before registering for this event. Tournament fees must be paid before teams are allowed to compete. Registration and payments should be made through the Robot Events website.

Engineering notebooks

We will be collecting Physical Engineering Notebooks on Monday, February 17 for judging.  We ask that teams with a digital notebook print the notebook and bring on Monday, Februaury 17.

Food and Concessions

Teams may bring food to the event.   Concessions  - TBD.

Finals Night

On February 5, the 4th week will be our League Championship.  Teams will have an opportunity to compete in the Skills Challenge and Judging.  If we have an even number of teams, all teams will be paired up and participate in Finals Matches.  If we have an odd number of teams, the top 16 teams will be in the finals.

Competition Preparation

Team should bring a printed copy of their Engineering Notebook for the judges. 

All teams should come prepared for competition. Here are a few steps that every team should take to ensure that they are prepared:

Review all game information: Current Game Webpage

  1. Review the rules and run through the inspection checklist about a week before the competition so that there is ample time for adjustments. Robots must use VEX IQ parts. Please self inspect before arriving at the tournament using the IQ Rapid Relay Robot Inspection Checklist.
  2. Check the official VEX forums for rule updates and changes.
  3. Carefully read all of the information contained in the tournament posting on robotevents.com
  4. Pack for the event the day before the day of departure. Here are a few items that you don't want to forget.
    • Spare parts & tools
    • Batteries and chargers
    • Power strip and extension cord
    • Laptop computer / Tablet
    • Programming cable
    • Banners and other decorations for your team pit table
  5. Ensure that you have the latest version of programming software and firmware for your IQ Brain.

Participation and Consent Form

A completed form for all participants must be uploaded to robotevents.com prior to the tournament. Team leaders will need to check that all team members attending the event have completed the online consent form prior to the tournament. 6:20 start rounds (or sooner if robots are inspected and ready to go)

VEX IQ League Weather Cancelation

VEX IQ League will be canceled if Grandville Public Schools cancels Evening Activities.  We could have an instance where school is canceled during the day and the evening activities would still be held.  Coaches will be emailed by 3pm on league night if we have to cancel because of weather.  I will also post the cancelation on Grandville Robotics Facebook page.

 

 

Refund and Payment Policies

If the Event Partner cancels the event: 

A refund will be given to all participants, minus the RobotEvents fee.

If a Coach/Mentor completes registration for the event then chooses to withdraw or not attend:

A refund, minus the RobotEvents fee, will be given to registered participants if they withdraw before December 30.  If a registered participant withdraws after December 30 a refund will not be given.

Judging Format

 All In-Person Judging - The Team Interviews and Engineering Notebooks will be judged in-person on Monday, February 5, 2024.  Teams should bring a physical copy of their notebook to submit to the judges.
