General Info
Please join us for our very first VEX VIQC Rapid Relay Tournament at Hugo A. Owens Middle School School! This is a blended VEX IQ tournament for both Elementary and Middle School teams and will qualify teams for the State Championship.
Admission to the event is $5 per adult.
We will have 1-2 fields available in the morning to practice but we will switch them to competition fields once the tournament starts. It is advised that teams bring their own fields to practice on.
Teams will be able to complete Skills runs while Qualifying Matches are occuring.
This event is tentative and is subject to cancellation by the school and/or district due weather or any other district/school closures.
Registration fees are due by November 25, 2024 or your team will be moved to the waitlist.
Pizza lunch order forms will be sent out to coaches 1-2 weeks before the tournament. We will not be able to take lunch orders the day of the tournament.
We do plan to have some concessions available for purchase in the concession area (water, soda, snacks) througout the day.
There will also be some breakfast items available for purchase in the morning, and pizza will be sold by the slice as a lunch option in the afternoon.
This is our first event at Hugo A. Owens and we would love to have the support of seasoned volunteers. Please email EP Caren Daniel [email protected] if you are willing to volunteer!
Hope to see you there!

Volunteer
Volunteers make robotics tournaments possible and are essential for providing these STEM learning opportunities for our friends and family.
We are requesting that each organization provide at least one volunteer to contribute to judging/team interviews and/or refereeing.
Volunteers will not need to pay the admission fee.
Please email Caren Daniel at [email protected] with volunteer contact information.
Emergency/Bad Weather Policy
In the event of bad weather, teams will be informed and a refund will be issued, minus the $5 RECF fee.
Refund and Payment Policies
No refunds will be issued unless the tournament is cancelled because of weather or COVID restrictions in Chesapeake.
In the event of cancellation due to these reasons refund will only be $80, less the $5 processing fee the REC Foundation charges for each registrant, and to cover expenses incured leading up to the event.
Unpaid teams will be put on the waitlist two weeks before the event, unless payment has been worked out via email with the EP Caren Daniel, [email protected] .
Judging Format
- All In-Person Judging - The Team Interviews and Engineering Notebooks will be judged in-person the day of the event. Teams should bring a physical copy of their notebook to submit to the judges.
