General Info

VIQRC MS Invitational Tournament at Gross Catholic High School

Middle School Tournament 

Welcome to the Gross Catholic High School—VIQRC MS Invitational Tournament, which will take place on Saturday, February 1st

Teams must register via the Waiting List to be considered for this tournament.

What to Expect:

Participants will design and build robots to conquer the challenges presented by the current VIQRC game, Rapid Relay.

Judging, Notebooks & Interviews

Notebooks will be submitted online.  Interviews will take place in person.

 Judging will follow the Guide to Judging to ensure consistency throughout the season. Please refer to the Judging section for more details. 

Competition Preparation

To ensure a successful competition, we recommend that teams come prepared. Review the Rapid Relay Game Manual, run through the Robot Inspection Checklist, and ensure your team runs the latest programming and firmware version.

Registration Fee

All teams must pay the registration fee before attending the tournament.  

Participation and Consent Form:

All team members, coaches, and adult mentors should fill out the online consent form, which is good all season, and for all, RECF-run events.  A link to the instructions for online consent form can be found here

Experience level: No previous experience is needed for most volunteer positions, and you can even bring your kids for a family activity (for example, Field Resetter is an ideal position for young children).

Time Commitment: For most positions, you can register for an entire day or just a portion of the day as your schedule permits.

Meals: Lunch is included for volunteers.

Emergency/Bad Weather Policy

For weather-related cancellations, we will monitor weather conditions and decide by 5 p.m. the night before the event.

In case of bad weather conditions or possible cancellations, please visit the event on RobotEvents.com, where we will post updates about the event status as needed. If any questions arise, please get in touch with Brandon Petersen at 712-828-5179 on the event day.

Refund and Payment Policies

If the Event Partner cancels the event: 

Refunds will be issued if we need to cancel due to weather or if the host site needs to cancel due to unforeseen circumstances.  

If a Coach/Mentor completes registration for the event and then chooses to withdraw or not attend:

Full refunds minus the $5.00 processing fee will be available until one week before the Tournament. After that, refunds based on special circumstances may be made at the discretion of the event partner.   

We ask that participants contact Tara Petersen for refund requests.  Refunds can take up to 2 months to process following the event.

Judging Format

Judging will follow the Guide to Judging to ensure consistency throughout the season. The judging format will be remote for both Notebooks and interviews.

  • All In-Person Judging
    The Team Interviews and Engineering Notebooks will be judged in person on the day of the event. Teams should bring a physical copy of their notebooks to submit to the judges.
