General Info

This VEX IQ Tournament is called Beams & Blocks. 

       Beams to represent the builds and blocks to represent the coding.  

 

 

Registration Information:  All participating teams must be registered with VEX Robotics and the Robot Events website and have an official team number before registering for this event. Tournament fees must be paid before teams are allowed to compete. Registration and payments should be made through the Robot Events website.

Engineering notebooks:   We will be collecting Physical engineering notebooks at this event for judging.

Lunch and Concessions:  Full concessions will be available. Lunch specials will be announced.

Finals Matches:   The top ten (10) teams from the qualification rounds will participate in Finals.  These ten (10) teams will be automatically paired into 5 Alliances.  The top scoring alliance in Finals will earn the Tournament Champion Award. 

Participation and Consent Form:  A completed form for all participants must be uploaded to robotevents.com prior to the tournament. Team leaders will need to check that all team members attending the event have completed the online consent form prior to the tournament. All teams should come prepared for competition. Here are a few steps that every team should take to ensure that they are prepared.

Review all game information: Current Game Webpage

  1. Review the rules and run through the inspection checklist about a week before the competition so that there is ample time for adjustments. Robots must use VEX IQ parts. Please self inspect before arriving at the tournament using the IQ Robot Inspection Checklist

  2. Check the official VEX forums for rule updates and changes.

  3. Carefully read all of the information contained in the tournament posting on robotevents.com

  4. Prep for your interviews with the judges and read the Judge's Guide. Check the awards tab to see what awards will be given during the tournament.

  5. Ensure that you have the latest version of programming software and firmware for your IQ Brain.

Volunteer

Get Inspired and Have Fun! Be a part of the excitement by joining a team of volunteers who help in a variety of ways to make this event a success for the students involved.  You can register for an entire day, or just a portion of the day as your schedule permits for most positions.

Experience level: No previous experience is needed for most volunteer positions, and you can even bring your kids for a family activity (for example, Field Resetter is an ideal position for young children).

Meals: Lunch is provided for volunteers.

Emergency/Bad Weather Policy

In case of inclement weather, check the Event on Robot Events for further updates the night before the event date. In the event of cancellation we will try our best to reschedule. In case  the event is cancelled, registration fees received will be returned minus the $5.00 processing fee.

Refund and Payment Policies

If the Event Partner cancels the event: 

In case the event is cancelled for weather or unforseeable event, registration fees received will be returned minus the $5.00 processing fee.

If a Coach/Mentor completes registration for the event then chooses to withdraw or not attend:

If something happens and you are unable to attend the competition, please notify the Amy Hemje at [email protected].   Refunds for non-attendance will only be given if the cancellation notice has been received no later than 2 weeks prior to the event date.

 

Judging Format

  • All In-Person Judging - The Team Interviews and Engineering Notebooks will be judged in-person the day of the event. Teams should bring a physical copy of their notebook to submit to the judges.
