General Info

The VEX IQ Robotics Competition Elementary School State Championship is a one day event in Doswell, VA at the Meadow Event Park.  Teams must qualify for the tournament by participating in a regional event by February 18th, 2024.  Teams qualify by winning awards at a local tournament or by invitation based on the highest skills scores posted in Virginia during the season.

As in previous years, teams will be in roughly a 10'x10' booth with pipe and drape, a table, 2 chairs, and a pit sign in the west half of the venue.  Skills challenges, practice fields, and matches will take place in the east half of the venue.  Teams will have 8 matches and 3 attempts at each skills challenge (driving and autonomous coding).  Parking is available on the west side of the venue.

This event is free and open to the public.

This includes all students, teachers, coaches, mentors, parents, and spectators associated with a team.

World Championship Qualifications

Virginia VIQC – Middle School has been granted 1 World Championship spot:

  • 1 Excellence Award Winner
  • 2 Teamwork Challenge Champions

Additional spots may be added on January 12, 2024 as some spots have been reserved for rebalancing allocations for current season regional participation.

If a team double-qualifies for a World Championship spot, the highest non-world championship qualified team on this event's skills ranking will receive a World Championship invitation issued by email after the results of the State Championship have been posted at robotevents.com, and will not be announced at the State Championship.

From the REC Foundation Qualifying Criteria:

  • The following occurs when teams win a spot to the World Championship and choose not to register by the deadline.
    • The team MAY NOT transfer that spot to another team of their choosing.
    • In regions with three (3) or fewer spots to the World Championship in a specific program and grade level (e.g., middle school VRC), the spot will go to the team with the highest Robot Skills score from that region's Event Region Championship when possible.
    • Invitations from regions with more than three (3) spots to the World Championship in a specific program and grade level (e.g., middle school VRC) that are declined or expired are lost and will be filled from the World Championship waitlist (if space is available).
  • Teams will have two (2) weeks from receiving their World Championship qualification invitation to register.
    • World Championship event pages will be released in RobotEvents during the Fall of 2023.
    • Teams are encouraged to proactively seek approval from their educational institutions to make travel arrangements easier upon qualification.
    • Upon qualification, teams are encouraged to register and select “pay later” to indicate their intent to participate.
    • Note: Teams being invited from the waitlist will have 48 hours or less from the time their invitation is sent by RobotEvents.
  • All teams must be marked “paid” (funds fully received) by March 31, 2024.
