Emergency/Bad Weather Policy
If any session has to be cancelled, we will offer an additional session.
If league events can’t be held in person indoors, we will explore the possibility of holding the remaining league sessions in person outdoors. If league events can’t be held in person indoors or outdoors, then we will try to convert the remaining league sessions to Live Remote Tournaments. Skills events must be held in person, but it is possible to schedule one team at a time, to hold events outdoors, and to schedule events on weekends in January for better light and temperatures.
If teams are not allowed to meet in person, then teams will be encouraged to try VEXcode VR and to compete with the new VIQC Virtual Skills in VEXcode IQ:
https://www.vexrobotics.com/get-started/vex-vr-skills.
The Event Partner will contact teams if any league sessions must be reschedules or modified. Teams should keep their contact information up to date on RobotEvents.com and include both school and non-school phone numbers.
Refund and Payment Policies
Full refunds minus the $5.00 processing fee will be available until one week before the first session. After that, refunds based on special circumstances may be made at the discretion of the Event Partner.
Judging Format
Remote Judging - The Team Interviews will be conducted remotely, and Engineering Notebooks will be submitted to judges electronically. Interviews and Notebook submission deadlines may be scheduled ahead of the event date.

Subject: Remote Judging for 2021-22 LAUSD East VEX IQ League at Augustus Hawkins High School
Greetings to all teams participating in the
LAUSD East VEX IQ League at Augustus Hawkins High School.
As you know from reading the league event website on RobotEvents.com, this league will use Remote Judging. We used Remote Judging last year at the State Championships (States) and at the VEX World Championships (Worlds), but this will be the first time most LAUSD teams have participated in Remote Judging. We will be using the same Remote Judging process that will be used at the four State Championships in Los Angeles in March, so Remote Judging at this league will help teams prepare for States. See Page 14 of the Judge Guide for Remote Judging Recommendations and Requirements.
...
Southern California currently has 256 Elementary School teams and 137 Middle School teams registered. Roughly 38% of Elementary School teams and 52% of Middle School teams will qualify for States. Many additional teams could be invited to States from the World Skills Standings. Scoring high on Robot Skills at the final league session is another way to qualify for State Championships.
According to the Qualifying Criteria, 24 Worlds spots are reserved for Southern California Elementary School teams and 18 Worlds spots are reserved for Southern California Middle School teams. These numbers could increase when additional spots are allocated to regions next month based on team growth. At least 25% of the teams attending each State Championship will qualify for Worlds.
Four State Championships were approved today at LAUSD high schools that host leagues:
03/05/22 2022 Southern California VEX IQ Middle School State Championship - SOUTH LOS ANGELES (Hawkins) 24 teams
03/06/22 2022 Southern California VEX IQ Elementary School State Championship - SOUTH LOS ANGELES (Hawkins) 32 teams
03/12/22 2022 Southern California VEX IQ Elementary School State Championship - EAST LOS ANGELES (Maywood) 32 teams
03/13/22 2022 Southern California VEX IQ Middle School State Championship - EAST LOS ANGELES (Maywood) 24 teams
The next step is for each team that wishes to participate in Remote Judging to submit a Remote Judging Sign-Up Form. This form includes a link to a Team Photo with all adult and student team members and the team’s robot with the license plate visible, a link to the Digital Engineering Notebook, and Remote Judging Interview Schedule Preferences. Additional information regarding each of these entries is on the form and below.

Remote Judging Interviews
Remote Judging Interviews will be conducted using Zoom Meeting Breakout Rooms. Here is the meeting information that team members will need to join the Zoom Meeting.
Join Zoom Meeting for Remote Judging Interview:
https://zoom.us/j/94260101547?pwd=eUp2WE9BRnJLb2dqWFdycmc3Y0hEQT09
Meeting ID: 942 6010 1547
Passcode: VEXIQ22
Teams are requested to log into the Zoom meeting at least five minutes before their scheduled interview time so that we can verify that all team members have Participant Release Forms on file before your interview starts. For best results, each student team member and the adult team member should use separate computers (with camera and microphone), tablets, or smartphones so that they do not need to wear masks. If the adult team member is sharing a screen with students, the adult should be behind the students during the interview.
To make it easier to match up team members with release forms, we request that all team members Rename your screen names before you join the Zoom meeting as follows to help us properly identify team member and adults:
- Adult team members: Please use your Team Number followed by your first and last name as your screen name.
- Student team members: Please use your Team Number followed by your first name and last initial as your screen name.
- If multiple team members are sharing a screen, please include as many team member names as you can fit in the screen name, starting with the adult team member.
- Judges: Please use “Judge” followed by your first and last name as your screen name.
Zoom meeting steps for Remote Judging Interview.
- When you join the meeting, you will start in the Waiting Room.
- Approximately five minutes before the scheduled interview start time, the Event Partner (EP) will admit the adult team member into the main meeting room first, followed by the student team members.
- The EP can adjust screen names for team members in the main meeting room.
- After all team members are verified, the EP will invite the adult team member to move to the appropriate Breakout Room for the Remote Judging Interview, followed by the student team members.
- Each team member needs to click on Join Breakout Room.
- In the Breakout Room, the team members will meet two or three judges.
- Before the interview starts, the judges will ask the adult team member and student team members some housekeeping questions: all expected team members present with microphones and video enabled, team number, adult name, no recordings permitted.
- The Remote Judging Interview consists of nine questions with a 10-minute time limit.
- The adult team member must be present but silent for the entire interview.
- The EP may also be present but silent.
- After the interview, the student team members will be asked to leave the Zoom meeting by clicking Leave Breakout Room and selecting Leave Meeting. The adult team member will leave last.
Remote Judging Interview Questions:
- Tell us some of the things your team is proud about this season, some of the things your team has accomplished.
