This year’s Provincial Championship will be held on Saturday, April 17th, and will consist of a Skills Only Remote Competition. Teams will be able to compete from the comfort of their homes, school gyms, or community centers, but still, be a part of a Province-wide event. 

Teams will be allowed to attempt both Programming and Driver Skills challenges 3 times each. Teams will be ranked based on their combined score in the two types of matches.

Remote Skills Capabilities 

Prior to competition day, please ensure you have the following: 

● Tool for sizing (VEX IQ measuring tool or equivalent, measuring tape, etc.) 

● Webcam(s) with Discord capability. One webcam is permissible if it can view the whole field as well as move around the field via the Referee’s instructions. Otherwise, additional webcams are needed to accomplish these tasks. Webcams need to log into the event at least 10 minutes before your time slot. Teams should carefully review the VIQC Rise Above Game Manual section regarding team requirements for Remote Skills Matches. (Pay close attention to RSE4 - RSE8) 

Please test all equipment prior to the start of the competition to ensure that everything is working properly. 

Field Set-Up 

You will need a complete field and game elements to compete. 

Please check your game manual to ensure your field is set-up correctly. Please note that set-up for VEX IQ skills is different from the teamwork challenge.

Participant Release Form 

All participants (In-person and Remote) must have a Participant Release Form on file. It is the responsibility of the Team’s Primary Contact to make sure this occurs. 

Action Item: Make sure all participants have a Participant Release Form on file.

STREAMING

Due to the scale of this event, matches will be run on 2 live-streams, running at the same time all day. Opening Ceramonies, as well as award presentations will take place on the "FIELD 1" Stream.

The Opening Ceremony and Finals + Awards Ceremonies will be streamed through YouTube for anyone to view (links will come closer to the competition day).  Each team is responsible for providing their own streaming link for their spectators during the competition qualifying skills runs.  The Discord rooms will be closed to everyone other than the team participants during the competition to ensure students do not have any distractions while competing.  The Discord server links provided for competing should not be shared with anyone. Anyone who attempts to attend a Discord room as a spectator will be removed.

INSPECTION

Inspection will take place 10 minutes before your scheduled attempt time. Simply join the room titled with your team number (example - "8:00 - 839A) and wait for the inspector to join the call. Once the inspection is complete, simply stay in the call and wait for a referee to join.

JUDGED AWARDS

Judged Awards will qualify teams for the VEX Robotics World Championship 2021 (Worlds).  We will be using a similar judging process to the one that REC will use at Worlds, which will help prepare your teams for that event. Please review the items below that are required for consideration for Judged Awards.

1. Engineering Notebooks

Pre-submission of a Digital Engineering Notebook is used for Remote Event Judging. Digital Engineering Notebooks may take any form that is accessible by clicking a link without any special software other than a web browser or PDF reader. A bound notebook that is scanned as a PDF and stored in a cloud service meets the definition of a Digital Engineering Notebook. A document stored in a cloud-based service meets the definition of a Digital Engineering Notebook. These are only two examples of an acceptable Digital Engineering Notebook. It is the team’s responsibility to ensure the link is accessible. Additionally, it is the responsibility of the team to ensure their submission is legible.

• A digital Engineering Notebook must be submitted to qualify for the Excellence Award and Design Award. 

• You will not be able to upload your notebook as a file.  It must be submitted as a link.

Action Item: If you plan on submitting your notebook for judging, convert it to a digital file with an accessible link.

 

Submission Instructions for Notebooks 

If you receive an invitation to provincials you will receive an email with links to submit your notebooks closer to the event.  Submission of your engineering design notebook will be due by Tuesday, April 13 if you want them considered for judging. 

If you foresee not having the ability to produce a digital version of your notebook  please let us know as soon as possible so we can work with you on an alternative submission method.
