General Info

This league is primarily for new VEX IQ Challenge teams from elementary schools in LAUSD Local District East that received Nelson Team Grants and that are close enough to Elizabeth Learning Center in Cudahy to arrive by 3:30 PM on Friday afternoons to help with set up. This league will meet in the Gymnasium five times on Fridays after school from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM between September 29, 2017 and January 12, 2018. The November 9 session is on a Thursday, because Friday November 10 is a school holiday (Veteran's Day).

Teams from other districts, teams from middle schools, and teams that want to start later can join the Late League which will meet from 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM on the same dates and then help clean up. The shortcut link to the Late League is:

If you encounter a problem registering your team for your preferred league, please add your team to the Wait LIst if possible and call LeRoy at 310-529-4637 or email LeRoy@larobotics for assistance.

The first session on September 29 will be for orientation, training, and practice rounds for Teamwork Challenge and Skills Challenges. Teams will also sign up to provide one adult volunteer for one of the next three sessions and for the final session.

The second, third, and fourth sessions on October 27, November 9, and December 1, will begin with Robot Inspection, followed by Teamwork Challenge and Skills Challenge matches. Teams need to check in by 4:30 PM and robots need to pass inspection by 4:45 PM to be included in the Teamwork Challenge match schedule.

The final session on January 12, 2018 will be the Championship session. In addition to Robot Inspection, Teamwork Challenge matches, and Skills Challenge matches, the Championship session will include Robot Design and STEM Research Project judging and Finals matches and Awards.

Due to space constraints in the gym, seating will be limited. Each team will have seating for six team members at their pit table, and one or two seats per team will be available for additional family members. Schools with large teams may need to schedule which students and family members will attend each session.
