MakerFest 2020 - Joining the State Championship

 

STEM Research

This season the STEM Research Project is presented as a 4-minute video plus 15 seconds of credits that the team records and uploads to SchoolTube, YouTube, or a similar online video platform. A link to the video must be submitted to the Event Partner no later than ONE WEEK BEFORE the tournament date. Follow these steps:

  1. Please refer to the **STEM Research Project and Presentation** document from the REC Foundation. The document can be found in the VEX IQ Challenge Team Resources area at https://www.roboticseducation.org
  2. Record the STEM Presentation as a video following the instructions in the STEM Research Project and Presentation document.
  3. Upload the video to one of the online video resources following the instructions in the STEM Research Project and Presentation document.
  4. Have the coach or another adult email the link to the video, including the team number and contact information for the coach, to the Event Partner no later than ONE WEEK BEFORE the tournament date:

  5. The top 5 teams, who submitted a STEM Research Video, WILL be interviewed by judges at the State Championship.  Please refer to the STEM Research Project and Presentation document for details.
  6. The top five (5) contenders for the STEM Research Project Award as judged from the video submissions, will deliver their 4-minute presentations in-person to a panel of two (2) judges at the Michigan VEX IQ State Championship.  Please refer to the STEM Research Project and Presentation document for details.
  7. Only ONE submission allowed per team. If two or more video links are sent to the Event Partner, only the first link received will be considered.
  8. The winner of the STEM Research Project Award will be announced with the other judged awards at the event.

The Michigan VEX IQ State Championship will be held at the Grand Traverse Resort.  It is strongly recommended that you make your hotel accomodations at the resort to avoid any travel delays.  We have taken great care to add many additional activites that can be enjoyed by the entire family.  Make this a Get-Away weekend.  Try to arrive on Friday and stay at the resort through Sunday!

Refund Policy

There are no refunds for teams that can not attend this event

REMINDER:

  • All team registrations MUST BE PAID within 2 weeks of your team registration date and at least 1 week prior to the event.  Failure to meet these payment policies may result in your team being moved to the wait list.

Emergency/Bad Weather Policy

It is unlikely we will cancel. All reasonable efforts will be made to inform teams of any cancelations due to incliment weather. Please monitor event status on Robot Events cancelations will be posted there. 

This event will be held at the Grand Traverse Resort and teams with concerns about travel should plan to arrive a day in advance.  The Grand Traverse Resort will gladly extend your stay at the same discounted VEX Robotics Discount rate.

We are transforming the Michigan VEX IQ State Championship into a full Get-Away weekend.  Arrive Early and Stay Late to enjoy all of the additional family friendly activies.

General Info

Congratulations to all team members and coaches upon qualifying for the 2019 / 2020 VEX IQ Squared Away Robotics State Championship in Michigan! Northern Michigan is thrilled to play host to you. We take this event very seriously and make every effort to ensure all coaches, team members and supporters feel supported and valued throughout the event. This is a student led event and we take great care to make participants feel the sense sense of occasion that accompanies a state championship.

A few notes:

  • This event will be more then 2x larger then previous years so EXPECT GREAT THINGS!!!
  • We are encouraging ALL teams to plan to arrive Friday and stay at the resort through Sunday.
    • There will be many additional activites for the family to participate in during the weekend.
  • The Grand Traverse Resort does not allow food to be brought into the event area.  Any outside food must be consumed in your resort hotel rooms
  • Concessions and On-Site dining is available at the Grand Traverse Resort
