General Info

VEX IQ Qualifying Event - Invitation Only

This event is intended to provide additional opportunities for team(s) that have registered for less than two events in the 2019/20 season.  If you team is interested in participating in this event, please add your team to the Waitlist on or after 12/16/20 once registration has opened.  Teams that have participated in less than two events may be added to the event from the Waitlist and sent a notification email with further registration instructions.  Additional teams may be added from the Waitlist two weeks prior to the event at the discretion of the Event Partner and the REC Foundation.  Please contact Lisa Schultz (Lisa_Schultz@roboticseducation.org) with any registration questions.

This VEX IQ event is a qualifying event to the Washington VEX IQ State Championships.

The following awards will qualify to the Washington State Championship:

(1) - Excellence
(2) - Teamwork Champions
(1) - Design

We will be awarding trophies to the above as well as 1st place Skills, STEM presentation and Judges awards.

Certificate awards will be given to 2nd & 3rd place teamwork challenge and skills as well as to a number of other judges awards such as Teamwork, Sportsmanship, Amaze, etc as determined by the judges.

If (10) Middle School and (10) Elementary School VEX IQ teams register for this event, then a second Excellence Award will be added.  One (1) MS Excellence and (1) ES Excellence, and both will qualify to the State Championship.

STEM:

Please submit your STEM submissions to robotics@fcsseattle.org.  Deadline is 1 week before the day of the tournament.

UPDATE: No STEM project submissions were sent in, so there will be no STEM Award at this event.

Parking:

Our parking lot entrance is on NE 79th Street, though Google may direct you to 78th.  Please come and park in our lot rather than on the street to avoid any inconvenience to our neighbors, there is plenty of space!  Please respect marked handicap parking spots.

Entrance:

Our parking lot entrance on the West side of the building will be open and has handicap access.  After entering the building, please turn left to enter the Gymnasium and check in at the table there.  If you need handicap assistance, please let someone know and they will guide you through the route you need to take.

Practice Fields:

We have space for at least 9 practice fields, so yes, please bring your field!  If you brought a practice field with you, please let us know at our check-in and we'll direct you to where you can set it up.  If you can, please let us know before the event if you can bring your field by emailing robotics@fcsseattle.org or contacting Kevin Tucker: 206-227-9236 call or text.

Check-In & Inspection:

Check-in will be occuring at the table on the West end of the gym, nearest the main entrance.  Only one member of the team with the team notebook should line up for check in in the line on the left.  Please keep the area on the right open for people to move in and out of the gym.

We are going to be testing a new methodology for completing inspection with shorter lines.  We will be instituting a queuing system similar to the way the team qualifiers are run.  As teams check in, they will be added to a document and we will have 4 teams queue up at a time at the inspection tables.

Please stay in your pit or practice area rather than standing in line for inspection until your number is called.  Displays around the pit area will also show which teams are next.

If you know you cannot make it to this event, please let us know as soon as possible!  (Kevin Tucker: 206-227-9236 call or text).

Team Pit tables are located in our gym and a map will be provided to help you find your location.  Please let us know if you have any handicaps that should be taken into account for when we assign table space.

Concessions and Lunch:

Concessions will be sold down in the auditorium.  Top Pot Doughnuts and Starbucks coffee will be available in the morning.  For lunch, we will be serving authentic Guatamalan tacos, encheladas and tamales as well as pizza by the slice, baked goods, fruit, and cups of soup. Coffee and variety of hot and cold drinks will be available throughout the day.  If you have any special dietary needs, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate you. (Kevin Tucker: 206-227-9236 call or text).  Food may be eaten in either the gym or auditorium, we just ask that you clean up any messes!

You may bring your own snacks and lunch if you wish, but we will be selling a wide variety of snack food at our event and there are quite a number of excellent restaurants, as well as a Safeway, very near our location if you wish to run out or order in.  Just ask any of our volunteers for recommendations.

Seating:

We will be providing some seating around our tournament fields, though it will likely not be enough to accomodate everyone.  We will have video feeds of the playing fields available in the Auditorium and Gym so you can take in the action there as well.  Please avoid standing in areas that will block people's views behind you.  Walk or stand behind the chairs to get to where you need to go.

Please do not do any coaching of teams from the sidelines.

Assistance/Emergency:

If you have any needs or have an emergency, please talk to someone wearing a volunteer badge and they will immediately help you with any issue that you have.

Code of Conduct:

We will be abiding by the Vex Code of Conduct and we will expect all teams, mentors and spectators to do the same.  This code will be posted visibly around our spaces for reference.

Cleanup:

We will need to clean up the event and get the spaces set up for church services for the following day.  If you'd like to help out, please connect with a volunteer and they'll help you know where things need to go.  We appreciate your help!

Legal stuff:

The event must meet the VEX IQ Qualifying Criteria for the results to upload to RobotEvents, which can be viewed in the Uploaded Documents event tab.  The state qualification spots are determined by the capacity of the State Championship, the number of events in the state, and the size of the event.  If there is an out-of-state/region/province/nation team, or a team that double qualifies from the event (not from previous events or other methods), that spot will go to the next highest unqualified team on the Robot Skills ranking at that event. There is no look-back to previous events to see if a team has previously qualified. These spots will be filled by the Regional Support Manager after the event has been uploaded and the results have been verified.  If you have questions about the State Championship qualification process, please contact your Regional Support Manager, Lisa Schultz at Lisa_Schultz@roboticseducation.org.
