Lunch Pre-Order for VEX IQ State Tournament 2-29-20

 

Help us help you with pre-ordered lunch!

 

The Robonauts Booster Club will be providing lunch pre-ordering for the CCISD VEX EDR Tournament on February 29, 2020. The tournament will be held at CCISD’s Learning Support Center (the old Clear Lake HS Ninth Grade Center) 2903 Falcon Pass, Houston, TX 77062.

 

We ask that each team competing in the tournament who would like to pre-order, please fill out ONE group order online at https://forms.gle/GoLMwgqrhEQ26jVg8.  This year will be pizza, Chick-fil-a meals, hot-dog meals, and drinks as listed on the online form. The pizzas are large pizzas with original crust. 

 

Please decide your team order (one order per team) and fill out the online form by 10:00am on February 27th.  Please submit one team payment at the concession stand before 8:30AM on the day of the event.  We do have the ability to take credit cards.  Limit one payment per team order.

STEM Research

This season the STEM Research Project is presented as a 4-minute video plus 15 seconds of credits that the team records and uploads to SchoolTube, YouTube, or a similar online video platform. A link to the video must be submitted to the Event Partner no later than ONE WEEK BEFORE the tournament date. Follow these steps:

  1. Please refer to the **STEM Research Project and Presentation** document from the REC Foundation. The document can be found in the VEX IQ Challenge Team Resources area at https://www.roboticseducation.org
  2. Record the STEM Presentation as a video following the instructions in the STEM Research Project and Presentation document.
  3. Upload the video to one of the online video resources following the instructions in the STEM Research Project and Presentation document.
  4. Have the coach or another adult submit the link to the video, including the team number and contact information for the coach, to the Event Partner no later than ONE WEEK BEFORE the tournament date:

  5. Finalists will give their live presentation and be interviewed by judges at the event. Please refer to the STEM Research Project and Presentation document for details.
  6. Only ONE submission allowed per team. If two or more video links are sent to the Event Partner, only the first link received will be considered.
  7. The winner of the STEM Research Project Award will be announced with the other judged awards at the event.

No refunds will be given once registration closes.

Emergency/Bad Weather Policy

All cancellations will be communicated through email. Please check your email the day before and the morning of the tournament (before leaving).

General Info

Competition Preparation

1. Review the rules and run through the inspection checklist about a week before the competition so that there is ample time for adjustments. The inspection checklist can be found here.

2. Check the official VEX forums for rule updates and changes.

3. Carefully read all of the information contained in the tournament posting on RobotEvents.com

4. Pack for the event the day before the day of departure. Here are a few items that you don't want to forget.

Programming cable
Power strip
Laptop computer
Engineering notebook (if you have one, helpful for Judges, Design and 
Excellence Awards)
Banners and other decorations for your team pit
Giveaways if you have them

5. Be sure to read 101 Things You Should Know Before Your First VEX Tournament. 

6. Review the descriptions and criteria for the awards that are being given during the tournament. 

7. Prep for your interviews with the judges. Check the awards tab to see what awards will be given during the tournament.

8. Remember that safety comes first, please don't bring tools that pose a safety risk to your team, or others nearby as the venue is a very tight fit. Also, remember no grinding or other actions that create sparks.

9. Understand how the game will be played. VEX participants are more than welcome to watch the referee training videos before they attend a tournament.
