General Info

Welcome to the Sky-Party Scrimmage at the Dawg Pound!

Welcome to Harold L. Richards High School in Oak Lawn, IL.  We are hosting a scrimmage because we want to introduce REC format Aerial Drone Competition in the Chicagoland region.  REC participants can register via the Robot Events portal.  Non REC format participants may register by contacting George Melonas at [email protected] or Dennis Reynolds at [email protected].  You may also call the H.L. Richards NJROTC Office at (708)499-5440 if you have any questions or concerns.

This competition is on May 17th, 2025, and is open to High School, Junior High School, and Middle School Aerial Drone Competition Teams.

Competition Preparation

All teams should prepare in advance of the competition:

1. Review the rules and run through the inspection checklist about a week before the competition so your team has ample time for adjustments. The inspection checklist and other competition documents can be found on the Documents tab.

2. Pack for the 24 hours in advance:

  • Drone and remote

  • Goggles/Safety Glasses

  • Spare parts & tools

  • Batteries and chargers

  • Programming cable

  • Power strip

  • Laptop computer

  • Competition Logbook (physical or digital as specified in the event posting)

3. Remember that safety comes first.

  • NO flying outside of designated areas.

    • The first violation of this will remove you from judged awards.

    • The second violation will dismiss the team from the premises.

  • Tools that pose a safety risk to others are not allowed (examples - high voltage power tools, unrestricted soldering kits, carpet cutters...etc)

4. Each player and coach/mentor must have a completed and signed Participation and Consent Form. These can be completed online or physical copies can be completed and uploaded to the coach's Robot Events account for each team.  These need to be completed and/or uploaded before the event. The Participant Release Forms are available under the Documents tab for this event. For teams who are non REC format, they will need to get the forms emailed as part of their registration confirmation.

5. Review inspection forms and judging rubrics.

No prior experience is needed. Judges and Referees will need to get trained through online webinars.
