Judging Format
Digital Engineering Notebook Submissions / In Person Team Interviews: Team interviews will be conducted in-person at the event. Engineering notebooks will be submitted digitally for evaluation via a link found within the "My Account" panel of the team contact on RobotEvents.
Digital Engineering Notebook submissions most be posted on RobotEvents.com by February 17 12:01 PM, 2024 to be considered for Judged Awards that require a Engineering Notebook. Physical notebooks brought to event may not be considered in the Judging process.
Hello Teams,
My name is Greg Caswell and I am the Judge Advisor for the Southern New England High School VRC Championship.
As we approach the event and the engineering notebook submission deadline (12:01 PM February 17, 2024) I wanted to make few comments, suggestions, and requests about your teams' notebooks, Innovate Award submissions, and a request about the THINK Award.
NOTEBOOKS
Updated notebook link // Please make sure you link to the most up-to-date version of your engineering notebook at RobotEvents.com. ( https://vrc-kb.recf.org/hc/en-us/articles/9662615886487-How-to-Submit-a-Digital-Engineering-Notebook )
File name // Please include your team number as part of the filename of the document.
First page info // On the first page, please list your team number. This is especially helpful for scanned notebooks.
INNOVATE AWARD
Requirements for consideration // The Innovate Award will be one of the judged awards at the Regional. To be considered, after entering the link to your engineering notebook, update your team profile to include:
- The required description
- Relevant page numbers
- In addition, you may also include the "Innovation Award Submission Form" ( https://vrc-kb.recf.org/hc/en-us/articles/18174198669079-Judging-Resource-Innovate-Award-Submission-Information-Form ) in the first few pages of your engineering notebook. If you do this, make sure this matches what you submitted through RobotEvents.com.
Highlight only one attribute // Only one feature or attribute should be submitted for the Innovate Award. Teams that attempt to stack multiple features or attributes into a single submission will have their submissions removed from consideration. ( https://www.robotevents.com/judging/2023-2024/QA/1853 )
Review criteria // Don't forget to look at the Guide to Judging ( https://vrc-kb.recf.org/hc/en-us/categories/9625677270807-Judging?sc=guides ) to see the full criteria for this award.
THINK AWARD
Code submission purpose // As in previous years, we will be seeking a code submission and a short write-up ahead of the event to help us judge the Think Award. This has been successful and has really helped judges get a sense of the teams' programming and to identify teams for additional interviews. Like the digital notebook, these code submissions allow judges to spend more time with something that can be hard to judge at an event. These also allow judges who have expertise in computer science to more thoroughly examine your programming techniques and design.
Code submission requirements//
- What we would like you to submit: Link to a PDF that is publicly accesible
- What that PDF should contain: Please submit a link to a PDF that contains a _portion_ of the code for your robot. That PDF should also include a description of what your code does and why you are highlighting it. You may also want to check out the Guide to Judging to see the full criteria for the award.
- Code summary - We don't want to see every line of code for your robot, but are interested in parts that are interesting, well done, and/or play a large role in your success. So keep it concise.
- File Name Format - The PDF you submit should have the team's number (WITH LETTER!) in its title. The PDF itself, should also state the team's number (WITH LETTER).
- Do NOT submit the actual code file.
- Please make sure that the PDF is publicly accessible, so that any of our judges may view it.
- Due date - Please submit your PDF by 11:59PM Tuesday, February 20th.
- Submit here: https://forms.gle/NGj4PGwCNFCRdhkK7
I look forward to seeing you all in just a couple of weeks.
Thanks,
Greg Caswell
