General Info

Welcome to Caston's Mid-Season Mayhem Blended VRC Competition! The middle of the season always brings excitement and chaos and we look forward to an exciting day hosting teams! 

Caston is located between Rochester and Logansport, Indiana, on State Road 25, 3 miles south of the town of Fulton, on the Cass/Fulton County Line. There are no restaurants in the area without going into either Logansport or Rochester, which are about 12 miles away. A mini-mart gas station is located in Fulton. 

There wil be a concessions stand available for the competition, but it will have limited options for lunch. Teams are invited to order in pizza which will be delivered to the school.

Code of Conduct

The REC Foundation considers the positive, respectful, and ethical conduct of teams to be an essential component of the competition. Participants are expected to behave in a respectful and professional manner, and to operate as student-centered teams with limited adult assistance. This includes all students, teachers, coaches, mentors, parents, and spectators associated with a team.

For more details, please refer to the REC Foundation Code of Conduct and Student-Centered Policy. If you have concerns about compliance with the Code of Conduct, please speak to the Event Partner during the event.

Agenda

Our schedule for the day is approximately as follows:

8:00am - Doors Open

8:00-9:00am - Team Check In

8:00-9:15am - Inspection (Drop off Engineering Notebooks at Inspection. No Digital Notebooks or Thumbdrives will be accepted) / All fields open for teams to practice if they have passed inspection.

9:10am - Coaches Meeting

9:20am - Opening Ceremonies

9:30am-Qualification Schedules Distributed

9:45am - Skills Fields open

9:45-12:15pm - Morning Qualification Matches

12:15pm-1:00pm - Skills Fields Closed / Lunch Break

1-3:30pm - Skills open / Afternoon Qualification Matches

3:30 - Skills Closed

3:30-3:45pm - Alliance Selections

4:00 - Elimination Rounds

4:45 - Finals and Awards

5:15pm - Pack up and Depart. Have a safe trip home!

Volunteer

Volunteers are welcome and needed!! We will provide donuts, lunch, snacks, and drinks for all willing volunteers.

Emergency/Bad Weather Policy

Although we do not plan on having inclement weather we know we live in Indiana and the weather changes whenever it wants to! Please know that we will do everything in our power to host the competition on the scheduled date. In the event that this tournament cannot take place due to mother nature having a tantrum we will first work to find a reschedule date. If we can't then registration fees will be returned minus $5.00 non-refundable REC Foundation fee. 

Refund and Payment Policies

If the Event Partner cancels the event: 

In the event that this tournament cannot take place due to inclement weather or events out of our hands, registration fees will be returned minus the  $5.00 non-refundable fee to the REC Foundation.. We will make every attempt to have the competition on the date scheduled. If we are unable to have it on that date we will reschedule for the first available date we can have the gym. We will notify teams as soon as we have a date.

If a Coach/Mentor completes registration for the event then chooses to withdraw or not attend:

Registration fees will not be refunded if teams do not cancel by 01/13/2024.

All teams need to be present and checked in prior to the start of the competition (no later than 9:00am). Refunds will not be issued to teams who arrive after competition rounds have begun or choose to not attend.

Any refunds will be minus the $5.00 non-refundable fee to the REC Foundation.

Travel Info

Traveling from a distance? There is a New Home2 Suites by Hilton and a Holiday Inn located in Logansport. Both will be about a 25 minute drive to Caston. There are also a few Airbnb's in the area too. 

Webcast

We will make every attempt to have the competition available to be viewed live. We may use YouTube, FaceBook Live, or another source. We will post updates on here and on our Caston Robotics FaceBook page closer to the competition date. 

Judging Format

All In-Person Judging - The Team Interviews and Engineering Notebooks will be judged in-person the day of the event. Teams should bring a physical copy of their notebook to submit to the judges. No Digital Notebooks will be accepted. If you are utilizing a Digital Notebook this season, please print it out and bring it in a binder for the judges to review.
