General Info

The VEX Robotics Competition (VRC) State Championship is a one day event. Teams must qualify for the tournament by participating in a regional event by February 3, 2024. 

Note that the Feb 17 date was postponed due to weather.  The new event date is March 9, 2024.

Teams qualify by winning awards at a local tournament or by invitation based on the highest skills scores posted in Maryland during the season. 
Hereford Middle School is the site of the event.  It is a Baltimore County Public Schools building.  
Parking is in the front and behind the building.  If weather allows we can also open up more parking.

Code of Conduct

The REC Foundation considers the positive, respectful, and ethical conduct of teams to be an essential component of the competition. Participants are expected to behave in a respectful and professional manner, and to operate as student-centered teams with limited adult assistance. This includes all students, teachers, coaches, mentors, parents, and spectators associated with a team.

7:00 am      doors open
7:30          check in / inspection opens
8am          skills will be open on the skills field for inspected robots.
8:30          all teams inspected and checked in, match schedule is run and published.
8:45          skills closed, teams in first 2 matches put their robots on the field.
                 Teams in matches 3 and 4 put their robots on the queueing table.
8:50             Opening ceremony/driver meeting
9:00         Qualifying Matches begin and skills field opens
11:30        lunch   
12:30        matches resume
1:50        skills field closes or near the end of qualification matches
2:00          Qualifying ends,   each team 7 matches

2:00        alliance selection, 12 alliances based on a 24 team field
                awards
2:20          playoff begins
Finals  -     best of 3 - winning alliance = invitation to VEX Worlds
3:30 pm    awards

Volunteer

Thank you for your interest in volunteering and/or helping us recruit volunteers.  Please contact both Chris Putnam and Mike Doddo at
[email protected] and [email protected]  if you would like to volunteer or can assist us with recruiting volunteers.

We will be in need of many Judges, Computer Operators and General Assistants.  

We will have training available on-site for these positions.  We do have a lunch for volunteers.

 

Emergency/Bad Weather Policy

In the event of bad weather we will attempt to modify the event to fit within this weekend.  In the event of a complete cancellation details will be emailed to teams on how to proceed.  
One scenario is that the event would be played on Saturday, March 9th . 

We must go by Baltimore County Public School weather policy. If the event is cancelled due to weather, we will partially refund teams.

There is a possibility of a snow date.  The snow date is March 9th.

Refund and Payment Policies

Refunds will be issued up to February 10, 2024. Any teams cancelling beyond this date or not showing for the event will not receive a refund. If the event is cancelled we will issue refunds to teams who cannot attend the alternate date.

There is a possible date and location to reschedule the competition. 

If the event is cancelled due to weather, we will refund teams minus the $5 fee that RECF charges us.  However, the event does have a weather date of March 9, 2024.

Judging Format

  • All In-Person Judging - The Team Interviews and Engineering Notebooks will be judged in-person the day of the event. Teams should bring a physical copy of their notebook to submit to the judges.
     
  • Notebooks must have the full team number on the front of the notebook.

Parking

There is limited parking in the front of the building.  Entrance and exit are one way.  There is more parking behind the building.  Rear of building is accessible only from the front entrance road.   
If the ground is dry, a gate at the main entrance will be open to offer additional parking by the tennis courts.
Do not park on the road.  All road parking is illegal and tickets will be written by local police.
