General Info

This event will have four to five matches per team over a total of four league nights and will culminate with the League Tournament.  The league will be a State Qualifier. 

For all rules--How to run a team, do your engineering notebook and steps to build your robot look at the VEX Robotics website.

1. Review the rules and run through the inspection checklist about a week before each league night, so that there is ample time for adjustments. The inspection checklist for the CORTEX can be found here and for V5 it is here.

2. Check the official VEX forums for rule updates and changes.

3. Carefully read all of the information contained in the tournament posting on RobotEvents.com

4. Pack for the event the day before the day of departure. Here are a few items that you don't want to forget.

  • Goggles/Safety Glasses

  • Spare parts & tools

  • Batteries and chargers

  • Programming cable

  • Power strip

  • Laptop computer

  • Engineering notebook (if you have one, helpful for Judges, Design, and Excellence Awards )

  • Banners and other decorations for your team pit

  • Giveaways if you have them


5. Be sure to read 101 Things You Should Know Before Your First VEX Tournament

6. Review the descriptions and criteria for the awards that are being given during the tournament. 

7. Prep for your interviews with the judges. Check the awards tab to see what awards will be given during the tournament.

8. Remember that safety comes first, please don't bring tools that pose a safety risk to your team, or others nearby as the venue is a very tight fit. Also, remember no grinding or other actions that create sparks.

10. Ensure that you have the latest version of firmware.

Code of Conduct

The REC Foundation considers the positive, respectful, and ethical conduct of teams to be an essential component of the competition. Participants are expected to behave in a respectful and professional manner, and to operate as student-centered teams with limited adult assistance. This includes all students, teachers, coaches, mentors, parents, and spectators associated with a team.

Agenda

League Night

Each of the four nights through the season, a schedule is sent to participating teams

  • 3:45 PM Doors Open, Check-in
  • 4:15 PM Inspection tables open
  • 4:45 PM - Drivers' meeting
  • 5:15 - 7:45 – League Play (Qualification Rounds)
  • 8:15 PM - Vacate building

 

League Tournament

  • 7:15 AM - Doors Open, Practice Fields Opens
  • 7:30-8:00 – Check-in
  • 8:00-9:00 AM - Inspection / Programming and Skills Challenge (first come basis).
    • The fields will close at 8:30 AM. Teams should be ready to be inspected and run Skills Challenges when they arrive. Teams will get 1 driver and 1 programming attempt before returning to the line.  Teams will get 2 attempts at both programming and driver skills. 
  • 9:00 AM - Driver Meeting
  • 9:20 AM – Welcome and Alliance Selection 
  • 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM - Alliance Elimination matches
  • 11:30 PM – 12:00 PM –  Awards Ceremony

All of our personnel; Judges, Referees, Score Keepers, Field Set Team Members, Queuing Runners, Tournament Manager Operators, Food Service, Custodial Support, and others are volunteers. Please treat them with kindness, respect, and gratitude for donating their time and energy. We could not host an event of this magnitude without their dedication and willingness to serve.

Thank you in advance for your part in helping to take care of our school. Be sure to place all trash in the receptacles provided. Keep the bathrooms, hallways, & pits areas clean & neat. And, notify someone promptly if there is a spill or if you notice a problem.

Emergency/Bad Weather Policy

In the case of bad weather, a decision will be made based on the DeKalb County School District inclement weather decision for the local area schools, and arrangements will be made for the earliest Saturday that can be rescheduled at Dunwoody High School.

Refund and Payment Policies

There will be no refunds given, so please be sure to check the schedules that are provided in September.

Judging Format

All In-Person Judging - The Team Interviews and Engineering Notebooks will be judged in person the day of the event. Teams should bring a physical copy of their notebook to submit to the judges.
