General Info

Welcome to the Wyoming State Championship! This tournament will be held at the Gillette College Pronghorn Center, in Gillette, WY.

Concessions

We will NOT have full concessions so please be prepared to pack lunch or have it brought in from the surrounding area.

Competition Preparation

  1. This event is sure to be a fast-paced and exciting event. All teams should come prepared for competition. Here are a few steps that every team should take to ensure that they are prepared.
  2. Review the rules and run through the inspection checklist about a week before the competition so that there is ample time for adjustments. The inspection checklist can be found on the Documents tab.
  3. Check the official VEX IQ forums at robotevents.com for rule updates and changes.
  4. Carefully read all of the information contained in the tournament posting on RobotEvents.com
  5. Pack for the event the day before the day of departure. Here are a few items that you don't want to forget.
  • Spare parts & tools
  • Batteries and chargers
  • Programming cable
  • Power strip
  • Laptop computer
  • Engineering notebook (if you have one, helpful for Judges, Design and Excellence Awards)


5. Be sure to read 101 Things You Should Know Before Your First VEX Tournament found on the Documents tab, and check out this video "What to Expect at a Competition".
6. Review the descriptions and criteria for the awards that are being given during the tournament. 
7. Prep for your interviews with the judges. Check the awards tab to see what awards will be given during the tournament.
8. Remember that safety comes first.
9. Understand how the game will be played. VEX IQ participants are more than welcome to watch the referee training videos before they attend a tournament. The referee training videos can be found on the Volunteer page at roboticseducation.org.

10. Ensure that you have the latest version of firmware for the IQ brain. The latest version of VEXOs can be found by downloading and installing the update tool from VEX Robotics: https://www.vexrobotics.com/vexiq/resources/vexos

Participation and Consent Form

All team members, coaches and adult mentors should fill out the online consent form which is good all season and for all RECF run events. A link to the instructions for online consent form can be found here

Volunteer

Each team is expected to provide an adult volunteer to assist with the tournament; other volunteers are welcome!  Please contact Ellen Peterson at Area 59 (307) 681-6135 with questions.

Emergency/Bad Weather Policy

In case of inclement weather, we we follow the policy of Campbell County School District.  If it is possible to reschedule the event, it will be rescheduled.

Refund and Payment Policies

If the Event Partner cancels the event: refunds will be issued.

 

If a Coach/Mentor completes registration for the event then chooses to withdraw or not attend:  refunds will not be issued.

 

Judging Format

All In-Person Judging - The Team Interviews and Engineering Notebooks will be judged in-person the day of the event. Teams should bring a physical copy of their notebook to submit to the judges.
