The VEX IQ Robotics Competition, Rapid Relay Essex Christmas Clash is our annual robotics competition at St Helena School in Colchester.

Code of Conduct

The REC Foundation considers the positive, respectful, and ethical conduct of teams to be an essential component of the competition. Participants are expected to behave in a respectful and professional manner, and to operate as student-centered teams with limited adult assistance. This includes all students, teachers, coaches, mentors, parents, and spectators associated with a team.

For more details, please refer to the REC Foundation Code of Conduct and Student-Centered Policy. If you have concerns about compliance with the Code of Conduct, please speak to the Event Partner during the event.

Agenda

These Times are preliminary and may change depending on attendance

1. Event Setup and Check-in (8:00 AM - 9:30 AM)

  • Team Check-in
  • Robot Inspection

2. Drivers Meeting (9:30 AM - 9:45 AM)

  • Driver and Coach Meeting: 
  • Field Test: practice matches

3. Qualification Matches Begin (10:00 AM - 12:00 PM)

  • Qualification Matches: Teams compete in a series of matches in which they are randomly paired with other teams to earn points. The number of qualification matches varies based on the number of teams present.

4. Skills Challenge (10:00 AM - 14:00 PM)

  • Robot Skills Matches: Teams can participate in individual driver-controlled or programming skills challenges. These matches are optional and can run concurrently with qualification matches.

5. Lunch Break (12:00 PM - 12:30 PM)

  • Teams have time to rest, eat, and make any last-minute adjustments to their robots.

6. Qualification Matches Resume (12:30 PM - 2:30 PM)

  • Teams continue competing in their remaining qualification matches.

7. Final Matches (2:30 PM)

  • Final Rounds: Teams compete in the final elimination rounds or teamwork challenges to determine the winning alliance or overall champion.

8. Awards Ceremony (3:00 PM)

  • Awards Presentation: Event organizers announce the winners for various awards, including:

    • Teamwork Champions
    • Skills Champion
    • Design Award
    • Judges' Awards

9. Event Conclusion (3:30 PM)

  • Event Breakdown: Teams pack up and the venue is cleared.

We will endeviour to run the event but we will call team coaches mobiles if for any reason we have to cancel.

Judging Format

All In-Person Judging - The Team Interviews and Engineering Notebooks will be judged in-person the day of the event. Teams should bring a physical copy of their notebook to submit to the judges.
