2419: Collecting Rings...

We have a unique design element on our robot that we call “The Collector”. It consists of a square with 3 open slots, connected to an arm. On the field, we drive the collector into the corner rings, “collecting” three rings. Because the rings are every other color, our very next step is to tip the collector down so that the middle ring falls out. With a total of 2 rings on our robot, we continue on. We are respectfully requesting clarification; is our ring collector design permitted within rule SG6, being any center ring is discarded first thing OR is the design subject to disqualification and therefore an illegal design?

We would consider this strategy as an intentional, deliberate, strategic, and--if done multiple times--egregious violation of <SG6>. If this Team is on the winning Alliance, the Violation Note for <SG6> would apply, and the Team should receive a Disqualification for the Match. At a minimum, each occurrence is a Minor Violation.

The language stating that Robots must stop all actions to correct themselves is a safe haven for Drivers and/or Robots that make mistakes, not for Robots that intentionally are designed to break rules.
