1785: <SG2> Horizontal Expansion Limits

Daniel Wilson
21-Nov-2023

<SG2> Horizontal expansion is limited. Once the Match begins, Robots may expand, but no horizontal dimension may exceed 36” (914.4 mm) at any point during the Match. This limit refers to “horizontal” expansion relative to the playing field (i.e., it does not “rotate with the Robot”). For example, Robots which tip over during a Match or change orientation while Elevating are still subject to a 36” horizontal limit. There is no height limit on Robot expansion.

In past games, the expansion limit was specified to be a "point to point" expansion. However, there is no such note clarifying that this year. Is horizontal expansion "point to point" or can the robot expand up to a 36" by 36" box?

The horizontal size limit in <SG2> is intended to be a linear, horizontal, "point-to-point" limit, measured across an expanded Robot. This limit applies to Robots when measured in any horizontal direction, including a diagonal measurement across a rectangular Robot.
