Welcome to the United Arab Emirates National VEX IQ Championship!

The UAE National Full Volume VEX IQ Elementary and Middle School Championship will be held on Sunday, February 25, 2024.  Students this year will design robots for the Full Volume Game; details can be found here:  https://www.vexrobotics.com/vexiq/competition/viqc-current-game

This event is open to Elementary and Middle School students qualified from pre-nationals for the 2023 – 2024 season.

Skills Challenges will be available to all teams, with 3 Max Driver  and 3 Max Programming attempts per team

Competition Preparation

This event is sure to be a fast-paced and exciting event! All teams should come prepared for the competition. Here are a few steps that every team should take to ensure that they are ready:

  1. Review the rules and run through the inspection checklist about a week before the competition, as there is ample time for adjustments.  The inspection checklist can be found here: http://link.roboticseducation.org/viqc_robotinspectionchecklist20192020

  4. Carefully read all of the information contained in the tournament posting on RobotEvents.com
  5. Pack for the event the day before the day of departure. Here are a few items that you don't want to forget.
    1. Spare parts & tools
    2. Batteries and chargers
    3. Programming cable
    4. Power strip
    5. Laptop computer
    6. Engineering notebook.
  6. Review the descriptions and criteria for the awards being given during the tournament.
  7. Prep for your interviews with the judges. Check the awards tab to see what awards will be given during the tournament.
  8. Remember that safety comes first; please only bring tools that pose a safety risk to your team or others nearby, as the venue is a very tight fit.

Code of Conduct

The REC Foundation considers the positive, respectful, and ethical conduct of teams to be an essential component of the competition. Participants are expected to behave in a respectful and professional manner, and to operate as student-centered teams with limited adult assistance. This includes all students, teachers, coaches, mentors, parents, and spectators associated with a team.

IMPORTANT!  You must call the Event Manager on the day of the event if you are going to be late.  If your team is not there to check in on time and no communication has been made, the match schedule will be run without your team, and they cannot compete.

Team Judging will be held in the pit area. Teams will be visited at the end of the judging period if a team has yet to arrive by 10:00 am when judging begins.  Please make yourselves available to the judges when they appear at your Pit table. If you have a match upcoming shortly or are running skills, respectfully inform the judges and agree on a time to meet with them at your pit table.

10:45 am Drivers Meeting

11:00 am Qualification Rounds Begin (Round 1)

12:30 pm – 1:00 pm Lunch (Concessions available; no outside food allowed)

01:15 pm Qualification Rounds Begin (Round 2)

03:15 pm Qualification Ends

03:45 pm Finals Matches (Top 10 teams will compete in finals)

04:45 pm Awards and closing.

The UAE National VEX Championship is a fully volunteer-run event. The United Arab Emirates is well-known for its strong volunteering culture; everyone is welcome to help to make this a unique experience for all participants and attendees.

Experience is optional for many volunteering positions. Some volunteering positions can be split between two adults for a morning & afternoon shift. Or, you can volunteer for a whole day, depending on the role. Lunch will be provided for all-day volunteers.

Judging Format

All In-Person Judging - The Team Interviews and Engineering Notebooks will be judged in-person the day of the event. Teams should bring a physical copy of their notebook to submit to the judges.
