General Info

18x18az, in partnership with ASU, are proud to present the 2024 VEX U Tussle For The Southwest! Please read below and on the accompanying tabs for information about the event.

Venue:

The event will take place in the Desert Ridge High School, Jagwires Robotics Room. Parking will be free for the event on Saturday for both competitors and spectators. Please see the "Travel Info" tab for a venue map.

Food Options:

A car show with food Trucks will be happening at the same time, so there is plenty of food within a 5-minute walk. 

Competition Fields Information:

The competition fields and robot skills challenge fields will use the portable field perimeter. The practice fields will also use portable field perimeters.

Code of Conduct

Participants are expected to behave in a respectful and professional manner, and to operate as student-centered teams with limited adult assistance. This includes all students, teachers, coaches, mentors, parents, and spectators associated with a team.

For more details, please refer to the REC Foundation Code of Conduct and Student-Centered Policy. If you have concerns about compliance with the Code of Conduct, please speak to the Event Partner during the event.

Saturday, February 22th:

• 7:15am: Doors open
• 7:30am: Volunteer meeting at the competition fields
• 7:45am: Inspection resumes and Robot Skills begins
• 9:00am: Inspection deadline, Robot Skills pauses
• 9:15am: Team Meeting
• 10:00am: Qualification matches begin, Robot Skills resume
• 12:00pm: Lunch, Qualification matches and Robot Skills pause
• 12:30pm: Robot Skills resume
• 1:00pm: Qualification matches resume
• 2:15pm: Qualification matches and Robot Skills end
• 2:30pm: Elimination Tournament and Awards Ceremony

As we are in Arizona, it is extremely unlikely the event will be cancelled due to weather. If an emergency occurs, we will notify everyone registered the tournament is cancelled.

Refund and Payment Policies

If the Event Partner cancels the event: 

No refunds will be given.

If a Coach/Mentor completes registration for the event then chooses to withdraw or not attend:

No refunds will be given.

Judging Format

  • All In-Person Judging - The Team Interviews and Engineering Notebooks will be judged in-person the day of the event. Teams should bring a physical copy of their notebook to submit to the judges.
