R7e & Fishing Line

GDC,

Rule R7: e states the following:

R7> Certain non-VEX components are allowed. Robots are allowed the following additional “non-VEX” components: e. An unlimited amount of rope / string, no thicker than 1/4” (6.35mm)

Is fishing line allowed? IE is fishing line considered a rope / string?

It is being used by a number of robots as part of endgame expansion and I'd hate to have inconsistent calls by head refs from one tournament to another causing a team to have their endgame mechanism allowed or disallowed.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Answered by committee

Thank you for your question! As a means to improve referees' and scorekeepers' ability to efficiently score the Endgame, decrease the resulting long Match cycles, and improve the overall safety of the Endgame, the November 1 Game Manual update included the following additions and changes to rule <R7>:

<R7> limits rope/string to a minimum size of 1/8” diameter and strongly recommends the use of Alliance-colored string or highly visible string that is periodically marked with the current Alliance color.

With this revision to <R7>, fishing line is not acceptable for use in Spin Up.
