TSA-VEX Robotics Competition
The TSA-VEX Robotics Competition provides students with a hands-on, co-curricular competition for learning about science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and complements the existing technology-related competitions offered by TSA.
TSA-VEX Robotics teams compete either at events held at state TSA conferences or at other official VEX Robotics Competition tournaments. The season culminates with a championship event at the national TSA conference.
The 2013 national TSA VEX Championship tournament will be comprised of four categories of events. This new format will provide teams with the same action packed experience of past years and it will enable team members to participate in other national TSA conference competitions and events.
The four VEX categories of events to be offered during the 2103 national TSA VEX Championship are:
- Programming Skills Challenge – Teams will have the opportunity to complete three trials of the Programming Skills Challenge and their scores will be recorded. Teams will be ranked according to their highest score in both a MS and HS division.
- Robot Skills Challenge - Teams will have the opportunity to complete three trials of the Robot Skills Challenge and their scores will be recorded. Teams will be ranked according to their highest score in both a MS and HS division.
- Head-to-Head VEX Competition – Teams will be ranked using their top Skills Challenge scores and the top 16 teams will engage in a one-on-one Sack Attack elimination match tournament to determine a champion in each division.
- Excellence Award Competition (Interview and Engineering Notebook Required) – The Excellence Award is the highest award presented in the VEX Robotics Competition. The recipient team of this award exemplifies overall excellence in building a well-rounded VEX robotics program.
During the national TSA VEX Championship competition, the following awards will be given.
- Programming Skills Challenge - Top 10 teams in both MS and HS
- Robot Skills Challenge – Top 10 teams in both MS and HS
- Head-to-Head Tournament Champion - 1st, 2nd, 3rd place (One robot team each) for both MS and HS
- Excellence Award – One robot (team) for both MS and HS
There are four event options available for TSA-VEX Robotics. Check with your TSA state advisor to see which is being offered in your state (many states will have some, but not all, of the options and awards from the national TSA conference championship event).
- National TSA VEX Championship competition format, VEX Sack Attack
- Autonomous and Driver Control, 2 teams vs. 2 teams, VEX Sack Attack
- Driver Control, 2 teams vs. 2 teams, VEX Sack Attack
- Driver Control, 1 team vs. 1 team: VEX Swept Away
Note: Sack Attack will be the game that is played at the 2013 national TSA conference. Teams may qualify for the national TSA-VEX Championship competition under any of the competition options but should know that Swept Away will NOT be played at the national TSA conference.
